U2 Singing On The Tribute Show!!!!!!!!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Hey, I second that. I'm all for a tribute CD and video/DVD where the proceeds will continue to benefit those touched by this tragedy.

Again, I reiterate that it was a classy tribute telethon.

The ending, with Willie Nelso was flawless and moving. Sigh.

Totally brilliant! the whole thing rocked. It was amazing. But....well...she sounded good and all but why was Celine Dion, a French Canadian, singing "God Bless America"? I don't mean to discriminate against French Canadiansa but there's something about Celine Dion singing "god bless America/ my home sweet home" At least it was a beautiful rendition.

Bruce!!!!!! Bono!!!!!!! Now remember though, it wasn't just a show. Go donate some money.

9;09 Pacific - Just got home - Did I miss U2?
I caught them on MTV though singing 'Whats Going On?'

But they'll want their money back

STARS PAY TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN, PRAISE THE COURAGEOUS AND RAISE SPIRITS & FUNDS ON "AMERICA: A TRIBUTE TO HEROES"

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 21, 2001 - Tonight, in breathtaking show of support, actors, musicians, artists and athletes joined together for "America: A Tribute to Heroes,"

an emotional, uplifting and unprecedented fundraising effort to benefit the survivors and the families of those victimized by the terrorist attacks on America.

Bruce Springsteen opened the live two-hour, commercial-free, simulcast program with "My City In Ruins," a poignant acoustic ballad he wrote to honor the memory of those lost in the September 11 tragedy. Springsteen was followed by Tom Hanks, who offered a reminder to the families of the victims that they are supported by the larger American family. "We are not healers," Hanks said. "We are not protectors of this great nation. We are merely artists, entertainers, here to raise spirits and, we hope, a great deal of money."

Other highlights from the broadcast, which united participants on both American coasts as well as in the U.K., included a joint appearance by Will Smith and Muhammad Ali, who denounced the destructive acts of hatred and urged people to stand together; an appeal for kindness, love and unity from Julia Roberts; moving tributes to the courageous and the fallen by Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, George Clooney, Robin Williams and Chris Rock - who reminded us all that "Heroes don't give up" - and Clint Eastwood, who asserted that "The terrorists who wanted 300 million victims will instead get 300 million heroes."

In addition to spoken words of remembrance and inspiration, musicians provided some of the evening's most memorable moments. Following Tom Petty's searing rendition of his defiant anthem "I Won't Back Down" were stirring musical performances from Mariah Carey, Wyclef Jean, Sting, U2, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young and Celine Dion, who delivered an inspired, choir-backed version of "God Bless America," and Willie Nelson, who closed the show with a heartfelt rendition of "America the Beautiful" accompanied by all of the celebrities from the Los Angeles portion of the telecast.

In addition to performers who appeared on camera, a number of celebrities volunteered their time to man a phone bank, taking caller donations from around the nation and Canada.

Unforgettable Lemon, that was Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit and Johnny (how do you spell his last name Reznick) of the Goo-Goo Dolls for that one song.

So, what did you West Coasters think of the tribute telethon? Thumbs up or no?

I totally agree.....a CD of those songs tonight would be awesome. If napster was still kicking it, I bet there would be mp3s up by tomorrow, but since that's pretty much gone, I guess I have to hope for a CD.

Sidenote- U2 and Pearl Jam were AWESOME!!

can't believe it!!!!!!!

and I don't have cable TV either

A very moving show...I just watched it online at www.tributetoheroes.org.

Walk On was just brilliant, but Sting's Fragile had me sobbing...and Neil Young singing Imagine was unbelievably moving, too. It was nice to grieve together...all of us around the world who watched. Does that make sense? Maybe nice isn't the right word, but it felt like a huge, worldwide funeral, wake and memorial that we were all able to take part in.

May all beings have happiness and the causes of happiness.

May they be free from sorrow and the causes of sorrow.

Goodnight.

I am sooo lame! I moved recently, just got cable, and set the VCR and went to a movie (Hearts in Atlantis). I get home, rewind the tape and what do I see?

bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (grey & static)

Oops! I forgot to rest the VCR or whatever it is you do to reprogram it with all the channels and I got NOTHING!

Now there needs to be a video clip of the U2 performance somewhere....

I must admit I didn't stay up to watch the show (it started at 3 AM here), but I'm watching it on tape now, and it's fantastic! U2's performance was breathtaking!

Everybody was there, anyone you could think of, either on stage or manning the phones. Really impressive! Btw, I loved the bit with Dennis Franz and Jimmy Smits talking about the police officers.

I really hope that the children's message went through to everybody.
