1) I am a major U2 fan. I have only known one person in my life personally who I considered to be a bigger fan.
2) Despite being the resident U2 expert in my little corner of the world, I don't own two of their albums: Zooropa and Pop.
3) I don't own these two albums because I don't like them very much. I have, however, listened to both of them many times and I owned one of them for a while.
4) I think some people on this board hate me now because I have expressed my dislike of one of the albums (oddly enough, the one I like better) a few too many times. I never thought I was doing it in a particularly offensive way, more of a
way, but apparently I didn't make that clear.
5) It bugs the heck out of me when people suggest that if you don't like this album, you are a) not a "true" U2 fan, b) stupid, c) shallow, d) musically unknowledgeable (is that a word?), and a few other such things.
6) I also hate it when such people think that you can't be a "true" U2 fan unless you worship these particular albums, but if you dislike the earlier stuff or don't much care for it--particularly a certain album with four guys looking very young and a little foolish on the cover--that's just fine.
7) I started a thread related to the album I've already received flak about for criticizing. This thread sprang from a somewhat serious thought but which was mainly intended to be humorous, and some people took it way too seriously.
8) When some people took it way too seriously, I freaked out--at least for me that was freaking out.
9) I feel bad about freaking out and I don't know if I should even bother. I also feel very annoyed and it bugs me that something that happens on this board can affect me to that extent.
10) I also feel bad about starting the thread in the first place. It actually was not intended as criticism of the album it was related to--but I should have known by now that if you say anything about this album that resembles criticism, someone is going to figuratively attack and beat you.
