Tour Rumours

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
U2 would never play the venues in Atlanta, Colorado, and Washington DC that you listed.

Really? Then where would they play?

They're not playing the Rose Bowl.

How do you know? Because it has to be either that or the LA Memorial Coliseum.

They're not playing Winnipeg & Edmonton while skipping over Seattle & Dallas.

Winnipeg and Edmonton are MUCH larger markets for U2 than Seattle or Dallas.

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume you're in Canada, no?

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume you're not Canadian?

Really? Then where would they play?

Atlanta- Georgia Dome
Denver- Invesco Field
Washington DC- FedEx Field

How do you know? Because it has to be either that or the LA Memorial Coliseum.

It's going to be 2+1 at the Coliseum.

Winnipeg and Edmonton are MUCH larger markets for U2 than Seattle or Dallas.

Which is why they haven't played in either of these markets in over ten years. Right.

I'm going to take a wild guess and assume you're not Canadian?

Nope, just logical and reasonable.

It's going to be 2+1 at the Coliseum.
It would be 1+1 at the L.A. Coliseum. The place seats over 90,000.

Which is why they haven't played in either of these markets in over ten years. Right.
They played two nights in Calgary on the Elevation tour. Given the level of support they've received in Alberta (especially during the Popmart Tour), they should have played there on the Vertigo tour as well.

Here’s my basic prediction for U2’s 2009 25-date North American Stadium tour:

September - October 2009

City/Venue/Capacity & Tickets Sold/Gross/Basic Average Ticket Price

Edmonton - Commonwealth Stadium (2 shows...120,000/$11.5 million/$96)
Winnipeg - Canad Inns Stadium (55,000/$6 million/$109)
Chicago - Soldier Field (2 shows...120,000/$11.5 million /$96)
Washington, DC - RFK Stadium (55,000...$4.5 million/$82)
Philadelphia - Lincoln Financial Field (70,000/$8 million/$114)
Foxboro, MA (Boston) - Gillette Stadium (2 shows...140,000/$11.5 million /$82)
E. Rutherford, NJ (NYC metro area) - Giants Stadium (2 shows...160,000/$19 million /$119)
Montreal - Olympic Stadium (65,000/$6 million/$92)
Toronto - Rogers Centre (2 shows...105,000/$12.5 million/$119)
Detroit - Ford Field (65,000/$5.5 million/$85)
Boulder, CO (Denver) - Folsom Field (55,000/$4 million/$73)
Vancouver - BC Place Stadium (60,000/$5 million/$83)
Oakland - Alameda County Stadium (65,000/$6.5 million /$100)
Pasadena, CA (LA metro area) - Rose Bowl (95,000/$9 million/$95)
Mexico City - Azteca Stadium (2 shows...210,000/$14 million -/$67)
Las Vegas - Sam Boyd Stadium (40,000/$4.5 million/$112)
Glendale, AZ (Phoenix) - University Of Phoenix Stadium (60,000/$4.5 million/$75)
Atlanta - Bobbi Dodd at Grant Field (55,000/$4 million/$73)
Miami - Dolphins Stadium (75,000/$5 million/$67)

U2 will want ALL of these shows to sell out...hence the lower prices in most markets. This leg should gross over $150 million.

My predicted schedule won't be exact but it should be pretty close to how the tour will turn out.

Nearby markets that aren’t getting hit will obviously contribute to the overall grosses in the centralized markets that are being hit. U2 are apparently releasing another studio next year and will probably return in the spring of 2010 with an arena tour of secondary markets and return engagements in many larger markets that were hit on their fall ’09 stadium tour…

I now have my doubts U2 can do 3 nights in prairie canada after The Police kinda stiffed back in 2007. Although Rolling Stones did 150,000 people over 2 night in Regina back in 2005.

Alberta was skipped in 2005 due to routing and to a lesser extent the exchange rate. On Popmart it was the 4th or 5th best turnout of any city worldwide.

I also think few folks in Detroit that can afford top tier tickets are gonna need a road trip. Jobs have been decimated.

Would Seattle be the NFL stadium or the MLB stadium?

Have Elton/Billy taken up the only tour allowed for 2009 at Soldier Field in Chicago?

Superdome in New Orleans?

Would Seattle be the NFL stadium or the MLB stadium?

The manager has pretty much ruled out any baseball stadiums.

Have Elton/Billy taken up the only tour allowed for 2009 at Soldier Field in Chicago?

You're thinking of Wrigley Field. Soldier Field has no restrictions on concerts except for those which might affect the Bears schedule since they have scheduling priority.

you never bought tickets? Thought youw ere from Amsterdam...
All ticketsales I participated the last 10 years for U2, Springsteen, AC/DC, PearlJam, Rolling Stones and Radiohead started on saturdays 9:00 or 10:00 .
So I expect 14 March to be an important day

:reject: I've never been to a concert in my life.

I'm from Almere actually.

Ah 9 or 10 am I can do, 9 preferrably. I gotta go to work a little after 11.

I've registered to all European Ticketmasters sites.

Still don't know which shows I'll try to get tickets for, I'll wait for the tour announcement.

Atlanta- Georgia Dome
Denver- Invesco Field
Washington DC- FedEx Field

Those venues are too big. Their capacities are in the 70-75,000 range. These above markets won't gross more than $4-$4.5 million each. If you do the math, U2's average prices would have to be between $50-$60 in order for these particular venues to sell out, considering what they'd gross there. And their ticket prices won't be that low.

It's going to be 2+1 at the Coliseum.

???

Which is why they haven't played in either of these markets in over ten years. Right.

Wrong.

Nope, just logical and reasonable.

I'm not going to touch that one.

Can I speculate Europe?

Around/after June 19 starter in Barcelona

Other cities in somewhat of an order

Berlin
Milan
Paris
Amsterdam
Dublin
Brussels
Gothenberg, Sweden
Somehwere in Poland
Budapest
London
Sheffield or Manchester
Glasgow
and ending up around August 23ish in Cardiff?

I left a few out, but I think they may have another German city and I forgot Copenhagen in the mix (around Poland and Sweden).

Maybe I will speculate tomorrow night on US dates and cities (and I have a bad feeling about the Bay Area and any city without a RETRACTABLE ROOF STADIUM). Miss Meow would be proud of the U2.

Bingo. Bravo.

Didn't Paull McGuinness say they'd only tour 6 weeks in Europe? And then a break and then 6 weeks in North America?

also munich won't be before the 15th. there's a festival or something going on there until then.

too many dates in here. U2 is about to play 25 European dates... The major outline, Geographically and logistically speaking will be about right.. ....a few more days and we'll know.....
A third Dublin date was optional in the first set of rumours...

Ah Almere! I hope you don't live in "De Regenboogwijk" ? :)

it will be a big fight for tickets. Hope you manage, since probably it will be an online sale which means collapsing systems the whole day...

how about europe first, nothing but stadiums... aaaaaand let's go with soldier field in chicago in the fall, say, oh i dunno... september.. to kick off the US tour.

i'm invisioning a large circular stage set somewhat in the middle of the football field, in the round with giant ramps for boner to walk around, and 2 giant intersecting arch like things holding up the speakers/video stuff above the stage.

let it be so.

Details emerging

Apologies if this has been posted before - Billboard article gives some tour info. Highlights:

"Kiss the Future" tour, North America starts in Chicago (Soldier Field) on Sept 12, prices range from $30 (10,000 tix per show) to $250, random upgrading of seats (the Vertigo buzzer?) is back. Here's the article:

Exclusive: U2 To 'Kiss The Future' On Global Stadium Tour

Edit: Just saw the other thread - oops.

Haha no, I wouldn't want a house of those colours!

Wait, you don't live there eh? :uhoh:

Yea I an going to try online, and I've no clue how I'll do it. I'm shit scared about the whole thing and afraid that the servers will be down and I'd be fucked aswell. How long are they usually on sale? I heard that the vertigo ones were sold out within the hour.
I think I'm going to find a replacement for work anyway. crack:

any New York rumors yet?

i have been checking the threads and only see europe rumors.
anyone have any New York City rumored dates yet?

well Manchester sold out two nights last time really quickly - so no way will they only play one date, esp if it is the City stadium. Mike:wave:
