Oh boy I have missed this thread

Yes! The Dirty Minds (great bandname btw!) are back!:happydance:

So, here it is: the sexual analysis (what a word) of Moment of Surrender! The song is about bondage or S&M.

I tied myself with wire
To let the horses run free

Well, the mistress must have done this, because no one can tie himself with wire.
He sees the mistress as a group of horses who are going to stomp all over him.

Playing with the fire
Until the fire played with me

Something with candle wax...

The stone was semi-precious
We were barely conscious
Two souls too smart to be
In the realm of certainty
Even on our wedding day [I/]

He was stoned, high of the tension. He enjoys it so much, he goes back in time when went to a bondage session even on his wedding day!

We set ourselves on fire
Oh God, do not deny her

Oops, accident with the candle wax!
No of course you can't deny an SM mistress when you are on your knees barking like a dog!

It’s not if I believe in love
If love believes in me
Oh, believe in me

If he obeys her, he is a good slave. Then she gives him her love.

At the moment of surrender
I folded to my knees
I did not notice the passers-by
And they did not notice me

He had to sit on his knees during the bondage session. He was blindfolded and didn't know how many people were in that room.

I’ve been in every black hole
At the altar of the dark star
My body’s now a begging bowl

:censored:

(My boyfriend went: "What? Did he just sing 'My body's now a glory hole'? And I thought my band was gay!" :hyper: )

That’s begging to get back, begging to get back
To my heart
To the rhythm of my soul
To the rhythm of my unconsciousness
To the rhythm that yearns
To be released from control

He wants some more. He listens to rhythm of the whip and wants to lose all control!

I was punching in the numbers at the ATM machine
I could see in the reflection
A face staring back at me
At the moment of surrender
Of vision over visibility
I did not notice the passers-by
And they did not notice me

Then the session ends and he has to pay the mistress for a nice SM session.

I was speeding on the subway
Through the stations of the cross
Every eye looking every other way
Counting down ’til the train would stop

And he goes home, thinking that it's too bad it's over, but he's in a hurry, because the wife will wonder where he's been.

At the moment of surrender
Of vision of over visibility
I did not notice the passers-by
And they did not notice me

All the masks and blindfolds are off after the session. He sees the faces of all the people in the room. They don't know each other but when they will see each other they'll keep their little secrets to themselves...

:applaud: Tell me more about the Candlewax

Just stumbled on this thread....the only song I can agree with totally is Do you feel loved....great song....
did read through the rest of the thread...to lazy....haha
Happy Friday!

Oh yes one of my favourites :shifty:

Orly :shifty:

Bonoa!!

But some of the explicit sexual meanings/references in U2 songs can be so beautiful  For some, it might be religion, yes, but I think sex can be linked to that. It depends on what you define as 'religion'. So... U2, keep bringing it on.

i think sex is definitely missing from U2's music, i just don't see it!

maybe things got a bit more interesting around Achtung Baby with one or two songs but otherwise i have honestly never really thought of U2's music that way :D

and i'm not talking about having to decipher every blinking lyric to find meaning or innuendo - i mean that would be so subtle it would send me to sleep! i'm talking about the heat that comes from a good heavy intense groovy tune, and U2, well they not exactly Barry White are they?! :D hahaha

Thank god for that! I find his voice a turn off! Whereas Bono's soft Irish brogue and the way he uses his voice hypnotising

oh i was kind of joking around there btw... but i love Barry White! his music makes me happy and makes me giggle like hell, and, well, you know, laughter is an aphrodisiac ;)

The only time the actual word sex has been used in a U2 lyric was in 2004. A Man And A Woman.

yeah and that is not a sexy song imo...

it's quite a nice song i admit, but not exactly steamy passionate or anything

Thank God their music isn't explicit. It's not hip hop.

But they still have many sexy songs.

And you don't need to be over-analyzing lyrics to find that there is often a sexual message in there.

However, a lot of the songs in this thread aren't sexual at all.

In a few U2 songs there are SURELY sexual messages. Once Bono personally talked about that in an interview. It was especially about Achtung baby. For example he talked about the "if you want to kiss the sky, better learn how to kneel". He said that some people didn´t like too many sex references on Achtung baby. But everyone can understand the lyrics otherwise and that is the energy in U2 songs.

Some songs have sexual references for sure. But others do not.

This thread is about interpretation of songs whether they have a sexual meaning or not. :hmm: And if they don't have a sexual meaning, we are making sure they DO

At the end of the day, you can get a decent amount of smut out of every day innocent converations if you try

A smut a day keeps the Dr away............ Oh no sorry, that's an apple

Am I the only one who thought that 'Who's gonna taste your saltwater kisses' was referencing comforting or kissing some one while they are crying?

Is there no one who brought

"Sometimes you can't make it,
The best you can do is to fake it
"

from SYCMIOYO up?

This has become my new fave thread.
It brings me great pleasure.

Here are some songs that havent been mentioned too much:

2 Shots of Happy 1 Shot of Sad :
You think I'm no good, well I know I've been bad...
Under Pressure, but not bent out of shape...
Greedy with my children, my lovers, my wife (lovers you say?! promiscuous much? ;)

Big Girls Are Best:
She feels it - every sensation
She can taste every sensation
Sexy momma, momma, momma

Babyface:
Some have said it was about watching porn & upon first listen I kinda got that impression too or that the narrator had an infatuation with a famous person but if you look it up on songmeanings.net all the diff. opinions are very interesting. The most probable conclusion I agree with is how society is so focused on tv/media & celebrities & how society's lines get blurred btween fantasy & reality. The way the song is written is genius. Plus sexy ;)

Coming home late at night to turn you on
Checking out every frame
Bitter sweet girl won't you give me a taste
Round and around, going down

And even tho its a cover & the lyrics are pretty PG I looove Unchained Melody. Hotness.
