^no, Daz. I didn't. And I really need to finish them by the end of the weekend. But I'm just not feelin' it. I guess I should go ahead and get the stuff out and try something, otherwise they'll never get done. I've just got that "Sunday afternoon/evening, don't want to get anything done, wish I could have a margarita" feeling.

I used to religiously listen to those holiday weekend "ZOMG GREATEST SONGS EVER" countdowns when I was younger. Loved them.

My leeks are not cooperating. They're not getting soft! ( :shifty: )

It says cook until they're soft and spaghetti-like, so they blend into the pasta, but after almost 30 minutes, they're still crunchy. D'oh. At least they smell good.

I've never used leeks for anything, but I read through the entire Julie and Julia blog after watching the movie when it came out on dvd, and I want to. She raved about them.

Hmmm I 've never cooked leeks.. my mom might have on rare occasion.

Cori did you keep them at their natural width pr did you slice them lengthwise?

*thinks THAT would make them cook faster*

I julienned them, per the recipe. That part was delightfully easy - they came apart with barely having to cut. The good news is, I liked the taste of them, so at least I've found another veggie I like.

The bad news is that the recipe was ridiculously disappointing. I don't cook enough to learn my lesson with pasta - even though the recipe calls for a pound of pasta, that's WAY too much.

So that was strike one. Then the leeks all clumped together and I couldn't distribute them evenly, there wasn't enough sauce, and it was on the bland side, despite being cooked in wine, and having added extra pepper and parmesan cheese.

BOO. That's the sucky part about trying new recipes - that was a lot of money down the drain. :drain:

I did set aside a serving for tomorrow's dinner, and froze most of the rest, but knowing me, I'll never get around to eating it.

Oh well. At least I have good parm, some wine and some awesome bread!

This is why I almost never cook ;) At least you didn't have to stab a lobster Julie & Julia style!

This is exactly what I'm going to do as soon as I put the little guy to bed.

I decided to listen to Boy, October and War as I cleaned this morning.

Then earlier I continued with TUF and Joshua Tree. I might as well wrap up the 80s with the Rattle and Hum CD before Mad Men comes on later.

Will probably have to them keep going with the 3 90s CDs tomorrow. And, if I can't think of anything better to do, go through the whole catalogue.

It's very rare that I feel like cooking. I like the idea of it - throw on some music, make some real food ... but I hate how you're done eating so quickly after spending all that time cooking. It's a shame, because I like finding recipes that sound good, but most of the time, they end up being disappointing.

Fall/winter is when I usually do most of my cooking, and it's usually stuff like chili or casseroles, that I can cook on Sunday and eat for dinner most of the week.

Oh, and bathroom scales are the devil, but tonight, the devil told me what I wanted to hear :happy dance:

Nice! Well done.

OOH - sounds fun. I tried to do that on a road trip once. But the trip wasn't long enough. I have watched 3 DVDs this weekend so far though

I'm trying to get around to watching all my bootleg DVDs, although that's a long prospect. I have to make a little mark on the DVDs to tell myself "Yes, you've watched this one."

I think I've officially gone brain dead. I'm writing an article listing hotels in Vegas without casinos, and actually started it out "Although Las Vegas is known for the rattle and hum of its casinos...." and then realized what I'd just typed.

I'm so bored I want to throw something in, like "Each room at Hotel X comes equipped with an iron and ironing board, a coffee maker, a hairdryer and a hooker." just to see if my editor actually notices.

how have you been, VP?

Pretty well thanks, Dazzled. How about you?

The recipe Julie/Julia used a lot was for roasted leeks. I'm sure it was good, and it made me curious about them, but the amount of butter and cream that most of those recipes used made me gag.

Oh well. At least I have good parm, some wine and some awesome bread!

That's 90 percent of the battle right there!

It's cool enough that I made bread last night for the first time in months, and between the two of us, we've eaten 3/4 of the loaf already.

Btw, just watched Mad Men, and after last week's crapfest, this was one of the best hours of tv I've watched in a LONG time. EXCELLENT episode.
