I Serve Larry's Stick
I just got back from a trip to Memphis...I went over fall break and it was my first time there. To sum up the 4 days there...lots of Elvis, lots of beer, and lots of barbecue. And of course all that equals lots of fun!!
The most memorable part of the trip was the visit to Sun. There is just so much history in that building--it was incredible! When I walked into the studio itself (and I know this is kinda lame) I got a little choked up. Gotta love big music nerds.
While in the studio we listened to tracks that were recorded there (duh) by Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Orbison, and Johnny Cash. The last track played was When Love Comes to Town. Before playing the music, our tour guide told us to feel free to dance, sing or whatever while the music was playing...but no one really did anything, just listened to the music (I was too in awe of everything to do much for the most part). But as U2 and B.B. were playing, I got this huge adrenaline rush...I jumped in front of my friend Robin, used my camera as a microphone, and just belted out "But I did what I did before love came to town!" Needless to say, everyone went nuts. It was hyterical.
Later that night while drinking beer and listening to live blues on the famous Beale St., I ran into a guy who looked just like the Edge (and ladies, he was damn sexy!). He was even wearing a little black hat! I bumped into him again at the Gibson Guitar lounge where we were seeing this guy Monte Montgomery. Turns out the Edge was his drummer. I saw him when I came in and told him that U2 were my favorite band and that he looked just like Edge! He said he loved U2, and he kissed me and I got some photos. Fun stuff.
After Sun, Graceland was a bit of a letdown, but still, it was interesting. Sorry this is so long...anyway, more fun stuff happened but I'll spare you from the details.
