Yeah - I didn't like this, either, but it was more the fact that he was still trying to gel it back when it was this long. The long hair on its own looked fine (there are some pictures floating around of him on a boat somewhere and it's loose and down around his shoulders... )

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say his main concern in doing this was probably to keep it out of his face when he was playing. Although, why he chose to gel it back rather than tie it back - perhaps it wasn't quite long enough.
