The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Bruce Cockburn opening for U2 would be odd. He's a fine musician, but not exactly the type to open up for U2.

Since we're listing bands:

- Black Mountain (although not exactly the type of band that U2 would choose, but a great band)
- The Pink Mountaintops (see above)
- The New Pornographers (they would be a great opening act, especially if Neko Case showed up. They also have a lot of material to work from.)
- Wintergloves (Fun band and a good live show.)
- Wintersleep (I'm not a big fan of theirs, but they fit the U2 opening-act mold a la Snow Patrol and The Script)
- Matt Mays and El Torpedo (an o.k. band with a decent sound, but he would be better paired opening for Matthew Good)
- Joe Plaskett and the Emergency (Might be too folky for the crowd)
- Kathleen Edwards (Talented, but she's an alt-country singer that may not sit well with the U2 crowd)
- The Great Lake Swimmers (Very good band, but too mellow and roots based.)
- The Besnard Lakes (Excellent band with a great sound, but they don't have the stadium anthem songs to get a crowd going.)
- Beast (Here's a band that would fit U2's tendency to showcase newer bands with a new sound.)

Besides The Arcade Fire, I would hope for Beast, The New Pornographers, Stars, and Tokyo Polic Club.

But for non-Canadian bands, I'm hoping for TV on the Radio.

TV ON THE RADIO!!! Love them :) Would also love Kaiser Chiefs, Phoenix or Interpol...and of course, Arcade Fire in the Canadian category

All those would be great as well. The only problem with Interpol is that they are awfully stiff on stage and hardly interact with the crowd.

If U2 wants an Arcade Fire-esque band, then either Islands or Clues, both from Montreal I believe, would be excellent choices.

from what I've heard the Hip aren't that good live :reject:

I think Interpol should open for them...not Canadian, but I don't care. I love them, plus they have a new album coming out early 2010, plus Bono and Paul Banks are buds.... :hmm:

The Hip are too big to open for U2, as kickass a show as that would be (I'd also be crawling out of the Dome with absolutely no energy left, but it'd be worth it ) - haven't heard of some of the other bands listed.

Shannon - I saw the Hip live for the first time this past May at Massey Hall and had a great time, they put on a good show :)

As long as the BEFP don't open, I'm OK with any opening act. Then again, I'm not there to see the openers.

Is it July 1st or 2nd yet? :waiting:

Still would love to see Black Eyed Peas open for U2, even though I'm sure they have their own plans for the summer of 2010.

I would probably sell my ticket if the Black Eyed Peas opened for U2. I despise them that much.

Let it be a good, young Canadian band that opens for U2 - or just any young band trying to break into the mainstream media.

i would be amazed at seeing any change in the opening act lineup for toronto. montreal got arcade fire, we should get some local toronto flavour. holy fuck.
