This was posted in the "Which would you prefer; new U2 albums but no tours, or eternal touring of b-sides and album tracks" thread...
This got me thinking. If someone DID knock Edge on the head and he did forget the "signature sound", and if he somehow avoided hearing any of the existing U2 music, do you think he would come up with the same sound again, independently? Was it something inherant in U2 or Edge that gave rise to that sound, or was it just "Hey, this sounds cool, let's use it!"?
