It came out kinda dark

I have a question for you 'expert' avatar makers- I made lots of others, but some shrunk down kind of blurry or distorted around the edges. I noticed that if the pic wasn't almost perfectly square to begin with it would do this. The program I have (Star Office) will only let you shrink the pixels together, so when the height goes down the width does too, and if the pic isn't square you might end up with something like 72 x 40 which looks weird and shaky.

So I need to know, are there other ways of shrinking the pixels only in one direction? What do you do?

U2Kitten, I don't have Star Office, nor have I ever heard of it. In the window where you change the size, make sure there isn't any buttons (radio or check boxes, usually) that can be marked/unmarked. Mess around with it, if you haven't already. I use Adobe Photoshop 5.5, and there is several options on how to make it smaller -- to do it by width and height, or by height only, or by width only. Make sure your program doesn't have those options as well.

Also, if it has one, check the help file. It may answer your questions.

Gypsys daughter made it REALLY quickly shes a real sweetie (she also said i had to spread the news about her makin them cus she said she loves making them aaaaw)- it was way bigger and didnt intend using it in my sig but Bonochick made it littler so now i can use it....love larry...

I've been using it to take the centers out of some pics and make some square, then I have to go back to Star Office to adjust the pixels! I guess if I get in trouble I'll have to come to you and Bonochick.

when i've made the few i have in the past, i just cropped the picture down to a square than i shrank it.....that worked well for me....

and yes, people......i use PAINT!!! heh.....

Make a whole new file (seperately) that is 72x72 pixels. Copy the area you want to be in the avatar, and paste it into the 72x72 file.

Okay, when you make a completely NEW file, do you specify the height and width of the image? It should give you the option..
