Hey there, traviud.

I love it when the benadryl kicks in :drunk:

How are things, Traviud?

Probably got the most work done today that I have in months. I had a stack of English papers to work through, finished that. I finally received the SG copy I meant to purchase about a month ago, but put off. The guitar isn't a masterpiece, but it looks nice, and feels great. A little small though, but I'll adjust. Spent an hour or two with that.

I'm also aiming to break (tie?) my record by listening to 12 albums in full today. I'm on #8 now. Of course, a good chunk of them were until 40 minutes. :D

Care to share some of that productivity? There are thousands of useful things I could be doing, but I'm writing e-mails and poring over maps of Europe.

Which albums have you listened to?

It was one of those moments when my back was to the wall and I absolutely had to accomplish something. Basically, I was in my element.

OK...what did I listen to today...

1. R.E.M. - Fables Of The Reconstruction
2. Belle And Sebastian - If You're Feeling Sinister
3. Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline
4. Wilco - Summerteeth
5. Big Star - Radio City
6. Radiohead - The Bends
7. The Beatles - Abbey Road
8. Deerhunter - Microcastle (you should give this record a shot if you haven't already; some real decent soundscapes in here, along with tougher indie rock, great record)

On queue:

9. The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
10. Super Furry Animals - Dark Days/Light Years (was just released yesterday; can't wait to dig into this one)
11. Grizzly Bear - Yellow House
12. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest

I've never heard a note of Grizzly Bear's music, but indie douchebags claim they're the second coming.

They're pretty good. Rootsy. Like a more harmonic, less falsetto version of Bon Iver. I've only heard the Yellow House album though, and just recently.

I'm looking forward to it. Their support is a bit limited here at Interference, but a few people I really respect champion them.

And, by the end of the night, I'll have heard 10 albums from 2009.

Andrew.

I've heard a bit about it but haven't looked into it. Probably should do that. Haven't listened to much new music at all lately, actually. I've been in a kind of consolidation phase of what I do have, and checking out stuff already in my collection that I had previously not given enough time.

Nice to see Fables on your list. Survivor's going to be hell for it.

I heard the Veckamawhosit album is a really bad quality rip, though.... So I'm waiting on that.

I became aware of that record about 3 months after I recommended M83 and Fleet Foxes to you. Could have made for an awesome trifecta.

It was great hearing it again today. I was pleasantly surprised by how little of it I actively disliked. At worst, a couple of tracks float around and make no impression. At best? Feeling Gravitys Pull, Driver 8, Can't Get There From Here...

You know, M83 really are one of those bands who could be neatly summarised in a Best Of. If they put out one, I'll probably buy it. As it is, their albums veer far too markedly from genius to pointlessness. I did notice they're playing a gig here in Melbourne sometime soon ...

Wendell Gee is pretty much the only Fables track I actively dislike. The rest is good stuff, and I don't think REM have ever topped Feeling Gravity's Pull.

It'd be nice if Gonzales could focus that songwriting vein for the 3-4 songs per album that are wonderful for an entire album.
