Yeah but remember, he was practically canonized in the aftermath of 9/11. It wasn't until the 2nd term he lost the conservative base.

The first term for Bush was not always easy in terms of his popularity. In the Spring, Summer and Fall of 2004, George Bush was brutally attacked by Hollywood and many of the most popular artist in music. Multiple movies attacked Bush including Michael Moore's movie, Springsteen, Pearl Jam and others played concerts across the country to try and get Bush removed. Yet despite all that, Bush continued to hold on to relatively good approval ratings and was successfully re-elected President with the first majority in the popular vote for any US President since 1988!

Barack Obama's healthcare reform bill has been passed but America is split | Mail Online

"Obama's personal poll ratings are no worse than those of Ronald Reagan at the same point of his presidency, which is today perceived as one of the most successful of modern times."

Here are the latest results from Gallup on how the public feels about the new health care bill:

Americans are once again about evenly divided on the healthcare reform bill, with 47% saying it is a good thing the bill passed and 50% a bad thing. This marks a change from the uptick in support Gallup found immediately after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill.

Yesterday, Obama's overall approval rating was 46% tied with his disaproval rating at 46%. Today he is up two points on approval to 48%.

The average unemployment rate under Obama at this point is 9.3%. The average unemployment rate under Bush was 5.4%. The longer that huge difference continues, the more it will likely negatively impact Obama's approval rating.
