This show sucks, why is it so short?

Not my ideal setlist, but the pool I started had too many ballads, so I went with the show that would be the most fun live, instead. Wonky transitions, because I stuck at this kind of thing, and yeah, I cheated and have two songs from one album on there in snippet form, but :madspit:.

Included MDH because fuck it, that's an album of some kind.

After which everybody leaves in a drug-fueled, face-melted delirium, while the roadies are slowly and desperately picking up all four band members who have fallen from the stage in a drunken haze, face-down in their own vomit.

Oooo, djerdap, I love this set list. I have an additional challenge: if you were to "make" this concert of of live tracks (where they exist), which performances would you use? Can we construct this show as a playlist, though sadly without puking bandmembers and postcoitally exhausted audience? Some are obvious choices (MOFO @VMAs, Silver & Gold R&H movie) but others I'm not sure.

I'm picturing a concert that starts out upbeat and then gets progressively heavier.

A Day Without Me

Dirty Day
Exit
Wake Up Dead Man

I may or may not partake in this exercise, but if I do, I would have at least 7 of the first 11 the same as yours.

brilliant idea, I'm about to make and listen to this playlist

This has been much harder to do then first thought, provided you're actually trying to make a set that makes sense and floes rather than just toss your favorite songs together.

I think I've tried 5 different combos so far and have come up empty.

I may also be putting waaaaaay too much thought into this

Yep. This is a tough list to make. I want to redo mine because I've thought of a better setlist, but I keep going back and forth between songs and flow.

So I tried to do one that kept with the innocence and experience theme, sort of a tracking of bono's early childhood thing... Birth, love, dealing with death, depression, anger, sadness, acceptance, overcoming

I dunno. I think it works but might be too depressing in the middle.

listened to this and it actually went very well. Kite at the end is a must. I would change Tomorrow to October and open the encore with it, then Drowning Man/Bad/Kite. Drowning Man/Tomorrow were too similar. I would go with Your Blue Room instead of Walk to the Water also in the middle of the set

This was a lot harder than I thought it'd be.

1) Always Forever Now
2) Sleep Like A Baby Tonight
3) The Electric Co.
4) When I Look At The World
5) Rejoice
6) A Sort of Homecoming
7) Like A Song...
8) Van Diemen's Land
9) White As Snow
10) A Man And A Woman
11) Lemon
12) Wake Up Dead Man
13) Love Is Blindness
14) Where The Streets Have No Name

ENCORE
15) Treasure (Whatever Happened To Pete The Chop?)

I'll edit in some setlist notes in a spoiler for those who care.

I'm assuming U2 will be a lot more segue happy than they usually are with this, so use your imagination here :)

Always Forever Now is obviously your intro, band walks on stage to the bongo groove, then rhythm section, then your guitarist, and then your singer. It comes to a stop, and Sleep Like A Baby's intro immediately begins, as on the album.

The next five songs are five high energy crowd pleasers. ASOH is the album arrangement for the most part, maybe with some more defined dynamic peaks like in the live version, but it's definitely more formless and tribal. You know how these songs go. Like A Song... kicks ass.

Van Diemen's Land is as on the album, on your typical B-stage setup. Maybe Adam plays the organ part at the end? Whatever.

White As Snow > A Man And A Woman is a direct segue - WAS ends on G major, AMaaW begins on B minor. I guess you'd go final chord of WAS, 2, 3, 4, first chord of AMaaW.

The next three songs are on your main stage again, there's a theme of death and weirdness between them. The final string synth chord of Love is Blindness is held for a period after the end of the song, the lights go out, it's held for a minute or so, it gradually changes to the D major at the beginning of Streets right as the lights in the arena gradually turn red, along with the backdrop, etc. etc.

Treasure (Whatever Happened To Pete The Chop?) is so high energy that it can't be topped as an ending.

I like djerdap's idea for a heavy set, so here's one choosing the heavier tunes.

1. Mofo
2. The Electric Co.
3. Wire
4. Love and Peace or Else
5. New York
6. No Line on the Horizon
7. Cedarwood Road
8. Like a Song
9. I Threw a Brick
10. Exit
11. God Part II

12. Numb
13. One Minute Warning
14. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
15. The Fly

I'd see that show.

Though it lacks some Womanfish. A womanfish-less set is not a good thing.
