Well, an eight team playoff sounds great on paper, but that's also three more weeks added to those teams' seasons. Then you're interfering with finals and all kind of other shit. I'd love to see it work, but the NCAA brass need to hammer some things out to get it done.

I hear you there. I drank way too much at the tailgate, left the game at halftime (47-7) because I was exhausted and it was too damn hot, came back and slept for a while, woke up hungover (only happens to me at night, never the morning after) and went to a buddy's to watch the tards and their drunken pirate buffoon coach epically fuck up. So now I'm wide awake. Awesome.

Most of it is during winter break, though, isn't it?

This was the first game I didn't drink for, for a number of reasons. I left about two and a half hours before gametime. I don't know if you saw the game, but it was quite cold (about 50 degrees, this is still September) and it rained constantly the entire time. I don't own a poncho, so I was soaked. I had four layers on. And I wouldn't have even cared, but Penn State had to go and just stomp on children's dreams. I want Darryl Clark to give his scholarship back for that performance. I woke up too early this morning, just to go support them at GameDay. I stood in section SC for five hours for them, cold and soaked, and probably have pneumonia. And the offense goes and gives up fifteen points on its own. Fuck everything.

I saw it. It looked cold as shit. Almost made me glad I suffered through swamp ass instead. The game definitely wasn't sexy, so I understand why you're so frustrated.

I mean, every time we did ANYTHING late, we'd immediately turn it over, epitomized by the punt return/late hit to the 35 and the 15 yard run that ended in a fumble.

Hot weather > Cold weather. Every time. I can tell you this as a resident of a northeastern US state. And I'm talking about Philly winters. Up here is supposed to be worse.

It was just one of those freaky fourth quarters where everything that could go wrong did. Both picks were tipped, for what it's worth. The fumble was really, really bad though.

I'm not saying I'd trade a mild summer for a harsh winter, but today was the worst I've felt standing in DKR since the first game in 2006. Eventually, the 40+ days or whatever in a row of temperatures over 100 that we had starts to wear you down. I can take the heat just fine and have my entire life, but at least when it's cold you can bundle up. When it's this fucking hot, there's not a lot you can do.

But in general I agree. Rain + cold can't be a fun environment, especially with tensions high watching a shitty game like that. Another reason I'm happy to be a Southerner.

The fourth quarter is where the floodgates opened, but after the first two drives, the offense was pure shit. I could see that coming from a mile away, beginning with the safety.

My only real issue with the cold is that (maybe because I'm really thin and my circulation is weak?) my fingers and toes just get frozen out there.

And yeah, tonight wouldn't have been a problem if it wasn't raining. I'm not used to seeing my breath in September.

I'm sure it was pandemonium after that first play, but you're right. The signs were all there. It's a shame it worked out the way it did.

When you get fat like me, maybe you'll be better insulated and less susceptible to frozen digits. It's easy for me to say how great cold weather must be since I'm in an almost perpetual state of high electric bills and ass sweat.

The first play was absolute electricity in that building. That's the first time I wasn't running through the motions in the crowd there and really got excited.

Just as it's easy for me to say hot weather's nothing when I see 100 degrees once a year. We come from different worlds, Deputy Schrempf.

For what it's worth, you probably don't have pneumonia. That is called by a bacteria infection in the lungs, and it's something that can develop in someone who already has the cold or flu (i.e. a compromised immune system).

That really sucks to have spent so much time out there for such a crappy game.

I've had to sit through all sorts of vicious weather for VT games, so here's my advice for you (because it's only going to get colder from here on out):

If you do have some spare money, invest in the poncho. You can easily get them at target or dollar stores for a fraction of what they cost at the bookstore. If you don't have money, a trash bag with holes in it works fine. Anywhere else that would seem tacky, but at college football games, everyone understands that you're broke because you spent your cash on booze. Make sure to keep your head extra covered though. You could be covered in 6 layers of clothes, but still feel frozen if your head isn't warm.

Find a comfy thick pair of gloves. I have a particular pair that I love because I cut the finger tips out (I find clapping with full gloves to be less satisfying, and it makes it difficult to eat and drink at games too). Then stick one of those small disposable heating pads in each glove. Again, it can be found at a target, kmart, dollar store, etc.

I also got a cheap pair of thrift store boots that were slightly too big for me. I put heating pads in that and wore double layered socks.

Anyway, that was a painful game even for me to watch. I do hope that, even though PS might not get the ranking you want, the rest of the games are much more enjoyable for you

He's throwing up into a bag. Thanks ESPN, I really needed to see that :barf:

My father, as an USF alumni, was annoyingly smug towards his FSU alumni daughter (me) this afternoon.

I thought after the BYU game, we were on the right track :(

This is the team that didn't deserve to beat a DII school. 7-5 and we'll make a lame-ass bowl against a Pac-10 team again like a few years back.

The beat, if you will.

The game today was boring as hell. And too hot. There shouldn't be day games here in September. But I love the defense pitching a shutout, a solid game for Colt save the TAINT, and plenty of reps for Garrett Gilbert. Plus we had our first Fozzy Whittaker sighting of the season. The man crush continues to flourish.

So Tebow got knocked out? He'll be back in three days anyway.

Florida State kinda sucks. Sorry, YLB. That's rough.

Really impressed with the play of the Iowa defense. One hell of a game.

What happened to your boys, GAF?

Can't believe 4, 5, and 6 ate it this week. And LSU barely made it out of Mithiththippi Thate.

And there's more rejoicing in Dalton Nation.

It's still mindboggling to think of how thoroughly USF beat them yesterday. They looked like they were in slow motion.

Also, USF's wildcat reminded me of The Flying V. No one could stop it (unless you're an evil team from Iceland).

The highlight of yesterday was seeing Tebow get knocked the hell out. He had the flu going into the game and I'm sure it's just a concussion combining with getting the wind knocked out of him. I hope the guy's alright, but I also hope the candlelight vigil outside of The Swamp burns the place to the ground. Right before the LSU game, too...

Six hours of cold, constant rain. I'm sure I have pneumonia. And for what? To watch Darryl Clark and Evan Royster bastardize the sport of football.

That's the only thing that matches a noon game in Florida. Holy shit, thank G-d for cloud coverage.

How about Oregon decimating Cal last night?

MAYA, VA Tech could be in the Top 5, at least Top 7. I could see USF being in the Top 15.

Get yr big asses in the polling booth:

the tebow updates were very annoying. nobody here in the midwest gives a shit about tebow.

do hope he's ok, but tired of the worship of this kid.

They're 16 in the AP poll, which is for some reason skipped there on Impy's image.

Don't blame me, blame the worldwide leader. All I do every week is take a screencap (hence Texas being highlighted).

The polls are a joke.

Cal is 19th and Oregon is 25th?

Oklahoma State (12) still ahead of Houston (15)?

Penn State ranked 13th and Iowa ranked 17th.

Ole Miss ranked 18th ahead of South Carolina, WHO ISN'T EVEN IN THE TOP 25.

It evens out by the end of the season until you get to the top 3-4 spots.

Has Boise State ever been ranked that high?

Does anybody know if Tim Tebow is doing alright? Also, does anyone know what he had for breakfast this morning? I'm concerned.

Fuck.

BREAKING NEWS: Stafon Johnson suffers throat injury
By Ben Malcolmson on September 28, 2009 3:57 PM | 6 Comments
Tailback Stafon Johnson suffered a throat injury while weightlifting Monday morning and is undergoing surgery this afternoon.

Johnson, a senior from Compton, was bench-pressing with a spotter in Heritage Hall's weight room when the bar slipped out of his right hand and fell at an angle onto his throat. USC's athletic trainers and emergency personnel rushed to the scene, and Johnson was taken to a local hospital, where he's currently undergoing surgery on his throat.

"It was an unfortunate accident and Stafon is getting great care right now," Coach Pete Carroll said. "We don't have a lot of information at this point and we'll keep everyone updated, but our thoughts and prayers are with Stafon."

Head strength and conditioning coach Chris Carlisle, who was within 10 feet of the incident, said he was shocked something like this could happen.

"I've seen players have the bar slip and fall onto their chest, but never in my 25 years of coaching have I heard of someone dropping a bar on their throat," Carlisle said. "We're fortunate he was being spotted."

The bench press is commonly regarded as one of the safest exercises in the weight room, especially with a spotter, Carlisle said. An assistant strength and conditioning coach was spotting Johnson this morning.

Johnson's recovery time from surgery is unknown at this time.

USC’s Johnson has throat surgery after accident

LOS ANGELES (AP)—Southern California tailback Stafon Johnson is unlikely to play again this season after a falling weight bar crushed his neck and larynx.

The senior who scored the No. 7 Trojans’ go-ahead touchdown against Ohio State two weeks ago was bench-pressing when the bar slipped from his right hand and fell onto his throat.

Johnson was in critical but stable condition late Monday night after more than seven hours of surgery, said Katreena Salgado, a spokeswoman for California Hospital Medical Center.

He was treated for crushing injuries to his neck as well as severe injuries to his larynx, said the hospital’s trauma medical director, Dr. Gudata Hinika.

It’s unlikely Johnson will be able to play again this season, but his prognosis is good and doctors expect him to make a full recovery, Hinika said in a statement released by the hospital.

Johnson is the Trojans’ second-leading rusher with 157 yards, and he leads USC (3-1, 1-1 Pac-10) with five touchdowns. He led USC in rushing last season with 705 yards and nine touchdowns, but has become into the Trojans’ short-yardage specialist this season behind starter Joe McKnight.

“It hit him with a lot of force, and it hurt him,” coach Pete Carroll said after the Trojans’ brief practice Monday night. “No broken bones as far as I understand, but he’s got some damage in there somewhere, and they’re working it out, trying to figure out what it is.”

Johnson had a spotter when the accident happened—an assistant strength and conditioning coach was standing over him.

“I’ve seen players have the bar slip and fall onto their chest, but never in my 25 years of coaching have I heard of someone dropping a bar on their throat,” said strength and conditioning coach Chris Carlisle, who was standing 10 feet away when the accident happened. “We’re fortunate he was being spotted.”

Johnson, one of six tailbacks who get regular practice time with the Trojans, scored two touchdowns apiece against San Jose State and Ohio State, including that 2-yard run with 1:05 left to beat the Buckeyes. He added another touchdown last weekend against Washington State.

Johnson has carried the ball just 32 times this season, while also catching one pass for the Trojans, who visit No. 24 California on Saturday.

They have the same problems at every other level of college football, yet they seem to manage OK.

Michigan's defense couldn't turnover Indiana's offense without help from the zebras and if Penn State can run out of any type of spread formation, they'll be able to move the ball on our defense.

Honestly, I dont think its the spread that is killing Michigan's defense. Its the between the tackles mistackling and the big pass play to one side of the field (mainly Bobacar Cissoko's side). That and no pressure spell bad defense. They are young and they were not suppose to be good this year. I think they will improve as the year goes but I agree, I don't see them beating Penn State..............this year.

However, when Michigan's offense is firing and in rythem (which with freshmen at QB isnt all the time at the moment) there isn't a team out there that can stop it consistantly. It is scary to think what the offense will be like in the next year or two.

Sparty today, could go either way IMO. Sparty has home field though and the weather is crappy. Both bode well for them. Should be an interesting game to say the least.

GO BLUE!
