Rock n' Roll Doggie
Hi everyone,
I'd like to introduce one of my favourite art magazines,
http://www.modernpainters.co.uk/
I don't normally buy it; I just read it at the store(!) but month's was an exception as it came with a free cd. The issue is about the connection between art and music, visual- as well as audio-scapes. The cd features new work by
Sigur Ros,
Four Tet,
Kronos Quartet - String Quartet #4, V meditation by Peteris Vasks,
Steve Claydon (Add N to X) - Homage to Kurt Schwitters (the famous Dadaist),
Jeremy Deller - Day In The Life/Can You Party?,
Black Dice - Things'll Never Be The Same,
Prada-Meinhof Gang - Want Is Your Master
and the Matthew Herbert Big Band - The Three W's
The Sigur Ros song (Untitled from their latest album) is accompanied by a haunting video by the Italian artist and filmmaker Floria Sigimondi (does anyone know if this is the official music video or something?) while Four Tet's track She Moves She is accompanied by a video by Ed Holsworth. Four Tet will be playing live at the Venice Biennale this year; that shows how big this guy is.
I really, really like this compilation; it's very exciting music.
Plus the magazine is a good read. David Bowie writes for it and is on the editorial board.
