Apartment blocks designed by communists from the 60's onwards, are mostly found in Eastern Europe (but you'll find some in Aus, NZ, too) to house the country's citizens. They're compact and can get up to many stories high. I like how in Belarus there's a project to get them all maintenanced before 2015.
