I have been getting into jazz music a bit recently, and so I asked my musically-diverse friend which albums he thought were sort of the ten essential jazz albums. He kind of thought for a second and replied that it was almost impossible to come up with only ten albums. But I think it can be done for a genre, granted it will make it almost impossible to cover all styles, but each person can certainly make their own suggestions.
So the question I pose is, most of us knowing rock music pretty well, what are the ten most essential rock albums? I'm not talking necessarily about your ten favorite albums, but the ten albums that really have defined and shaped rock music for the last 50 years. I expect to see some fairly diverse answers, but that's exactly what I want. I think it could be kind of cool, for instance as a primer for someone who knows nothing about rock music.
Well, here is my list, in no particular order:
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
U2 - The Joshua Tree
Radiohead - OK Computer
Metallica - Metallica (black album)
Oasis - (What's The Story) Morning Glory?
The Police - Synchronicity
Nirvana - Nevermind
The Who - Who's Next
Bruce Springsteen - Born In The USA
Obviously, growing up in the 90s has skewed my list more towards that decade. Many of you who prefer classic rock or whatever might go towards the older stuff. Nothing wrong with that, but let's see what you can do.
Let the arguments begin.
