Random Music Talk CXXVIII: Cobbler's 42 Hat Sucks

I'm kinda enjoying the last Goat Girl album.

Random Music Talk CXXI: Not this time, Crappy

It's been a couple of years since I've been here, but when I found out about Walter Becker's death I had a weird urge to post here. I discovered Steely Dan though this forum (on a Desert Island playlist, I think) and have been a fan ever since. Really sad news. RIP.

Desert Island X: Survivor Round 4

I was undecided between Bono212 and Philsfan. I gave the latter more points, but the former had more songs I wasn't familiar with and enjoyed, which for me is the objective of this DI thing... At the end, I choose to vote for Bono212 also to avoid a tie. Honestly, I am surprised to have got this...

Desert Island X: Survivor Round 2

This is getting tough. I really enjoyed Sad Punk's playlist, but yeah, I suppose it's my least favorite of this bunch.

Desert Island X: Survivor Round 1

I'm gonna go with LJT. It was a great playlist, but it was kinda short and I already knew most of the songs, so it didn't give me the opportunity to discover new things.

Desert Island X: Group 1 Listening Thread

So, Joey: The first part of your playlist didn't do much for me, to be honest. I suppose I wasn't in the mood or something, because I generally like some of the artists involved (Liars, The Horrors, Beck...). The middle was what really caught my attention. Oddly enough, I found a bunch of songs...

Desert Island X: Group 1 Listening Thread

I'm a bit late to the party but thanks everyone for your comments so far. :) I'm glad you liked it because while my last entry was more focused on a narrow spectrum of what I listen to, this new one is more representative of my tastes. The Magnetic Fields, as far as I'm concerned, are...

Random Music Talk XCV: Laz Is The Larry Bird Of Being A Son Of A Bitch

Wow, this is great news, thanks for sharing! I sure wasn't expecting a reunion, this is the second surprise of the year after Slowdive. American Thighs is brilliant, their following LPs have a couple of good songs but can't reach the peaks of the first one. Don't know what to expect from a new...

    Real Estate

:bump: The new album is brilliant. I actually think Talking Backwards might be one of the weaker tracks there, as much as I like it. Past Lives, Primitive and Horizon are instant favorites. 8.8 from Pitchfork too (not that it matters so much, but...)

Random Music Talk XCI: A Festivus for the Rest of Us

This is one of my favorite songs of his. Unfortunately, he didn't play it when I got to see him this summer. Have you listened to that live album that came out last year, Live at the Cellar Door? I love how he sings Old Man there. Also, See The Sky About To Rain only with the piano... Another...

    Real Estate

Any fans of this band? They have a new album coming out in March. I loved Days but was fairly disappointed by their side project Duck Tails. This is the new track, I'm quite diggin it Real Estate - Talking Backwards (Official Video) - YouTube

What is your favorite year of music?

I've been doing a thing where I listen to 40-50 albums from a certain year, using a mix of RYM ratings and other sites to choose the albums, then I make a top ten. So far 1987 and 1974 were my favorites. 1987 sure was a great year! My favorites, in no particular order: Hüsker Dü - Warehouse...

It's funny, when the first came out I thought "Well, they could improve on the vocals". Now when I listened to Glow & Below I found myself missing Daniel Blumberg's voice.

    Tame Impala - Lonerism

I think I, too, prefer Innerspeaker. It might be for personal reasons, since I listened to the hell out of that album in a tough period of my life. I get that Lonerism sees the band improve in some aspects, but deep down I think they didn't reach the peaks of Alter Ego and Runaway Houses, City...
