I am not questioning or judging anyone who likes that version from 60 Minutes Australia.
But, let's be honest. Bono starts out strong vocally ... and deteriorates rapidly.
I am a huge U2 fan. One thing I love about them is their imperfections.
But, magestic or breathtaking performances have...
There does not seem to be as much as buzz on here via the U2 presale codes as there was last week. Not sure why that is.
Did folks burn through all their codes last week?
If not, for folks who didn't and went in today, was it as painless as last time around?
I actually have never seen this video. Bono playing the keyboard at the start was kinda funny. Some unintentional comedy there.
I'm also bummed because when I heard that Bono sang a song with Cohen I was stoked, but he sounded so weak on this that I felt let down.
I honestly don't care about how his voice sounded then ... but it was pretty bad. It was only one verse and it was pretty horrible.
I am in the camp who worries about ... not bashes ... his voice.
I admire the emotion he puts into a song, and always hope that he can hold up. Somehow, he...
For all those who are ever worried about Bono's voice ....
When was the "Tower of Song" recorded?
I think that was 2006.
Holy crap. That might be the weakest I have ever heard it.
This is not a Bono's voice bashing thing. But, that was a very weak effort. And off of tour at that. What...
This age group is too big.
I discovered U2 in 1983 with War as an 11 year old.
A 20 year old wasn't even born yet.
Not trying to rain on the parade of this thread.
But, not sure how an age group that was around for the Joshua Tree Tour and ZooTv is in the same age group as those who are...
A finished Mercy would be a great song. As it is, it's a very good song.
Winter is too Coldplay-ish. And, no, I am not trying to invite the really stupid CP-U2 argument that goes on here way too much. Yes, we'll never know who recorded what when ... but CP released their album first. And I...
Beautiful Day had a similar impact on me, but Magnificent ... holy crap.
I still cannot even describe it. But, you hit on a really important reason I think why the tune is so unfreakingreal.
I know some fans are bashing it because it is formulaic U2. Others say that they wrote it to be an...
Unfortunately, in rock star years, yes it is.
But, who the hell wants to see the boys just sitting in la-z-y boy recliners.
It was great to see them having fun with "Boots," but the insane backlash towards it is probably going to hold it back unfortunately.
I think a lot of fans found it to be hilarious too.
But, I think it was a turn-off for folks for an album right on the heels of Achtung.
As a fan, I understand what they were getting at. But, I could see how some more casual fans would dismiss the album because of something as silly as the...
Seems like the best version of it so far. Agree that they look more comfortable with it.
I found the quote pretty funny because it is so true.
I have come to accept that Bono is gonna have his good days and bad days and occasional great days. I appreciate that he has flaws as a singer...
Mea culpa ... Zoo
I was not trying to prove a point at all or take you to task for your take. And not sure how we got into an argument, but it was clearly me who fanned the flames, so I apologize. And my intention was not to derail the love of Pop thread. And, it looks like I did that, and I...
That's the crux of it though. Some would say that CP is in the same league. A CP fan emailed me today and said that if CP were playing Fordham the whole place would be rocking.
It always comes back to that.
For whatever reason, these two bands cannot be discussed on their own merits.
No...
For real? Outside of Blue Room, Slug, Sarajevo, Native, and Always ... there was nothing on that album.
That said, those songs were well worth the non-U2 project.
While I can recognize the humor in this, no.
"i think, to U2's credit, the ability they have to offer up something different with each album and not repeat themselves has made fans out of a lot of different kinds of people with different taste in music."
U2 repeat themselves a lot. And I...
Perhaps, but the people we should care about ... are U2 fans.
And I have never understood why they have bashed the album so much over the years.
AB is maybe my favorite album of all-time of theirs, but Pop shows a hell of a lot more experimentation and risk than any album they have ever done...
Do you think most fans outside this forum could recognize Zoo Station, So Cruel, The Fly, Love is Blindness, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses, Acrobat, Until the End of the World, Ultraviolet, and Trying to Throw Your Arms Around the World?
Come on! Everyone knows that the beginning of the end was October.
Seriously, how do threads like this start? And continue?
If you haven't liked U2 since JT or AB, what the hell are you still doing here?
That I agree with. The promotion of the album was beyond bizarre.
Our first exposure to it was them in a freaking K-Mart.
But, the songs themselves? As you said, are actually good. And great in some instances.
This really is turning into the Hatfields and the McCoys.
U2 fans blasting Coldplay for being too much like U2.
Coldplay fans blasting U2 for being past their prime and it is time for U2 to pass the torch like The Police did for U2.
Well, if U2 fans were honest with themselves, they would say...
