So it's still looking like there could be a silver lining to the back injury: new music sooner. I'm planning on them not releasing anything this year, but it certainly seems possible. I have a hard time believing they'd release something in the first quarter of next year, but maybe they'd drop...

I didn't mean to conflate hardcore U2 fans with Interference regulars--I was speaking of the latter only, as I don't have significant exposure to the former. But this brings up the question: why would one specific group of hardcore fans vary significantly from another? It's certainly not...

The responses to NLOTH 1.25 years after release are very different around here as compared to HTDAAB and ATYCLB. While the positive impressions of HTDAAB were more extreme at the time of the leak than those of NLOTH, there's no doubt that hardcore fans, taken as a whole, appreciate this album...

Whew, I go away for a few days and...well, some stuff has at least happened. Sort of :wink:. For a second there, I thought we were going to have some serious new album news here though. Anyway, sorry to do this, but I wasn't sure if the 'Soon' request thread was still active...

Since this song is called 'Soon', they should have leaked/released this for free when they announced the album delay back in late 2008, assuming the song was finished by then. It's cool we're getting it and all, but the method of release seems pretty blah.

Wow, I was skeptical that the vinyl would turn out to be Kingdom, but that's exciting news. So the only question now is...how long until it leaks? :wink:

For those of us most concerned about U2 getting the time to work on new music and to get it our rather soon, this looks like it might be a very nice reprieve. Since Edge and Adam says they've been working on some good stuff, now they can actually continue mining the vein without having to worry...

Well, that's bad news (not because of the tour delay, but because the B-man is hurting). The silver lining is that Bono could potentially use this experience for some unique, introspective song-writing.

Like Headache, I see comments on both sides that I agree with. It's always tempting to place U2 history in nice, oversimplified packages, and this is even necessary when you're trying to discuss a career as long and varied (though full of exceptions in each simplified period) as U2's. But I...

Well, that was tongue-in-cheek. Still, I'd rather have them write 'God Part III' and 'Jesus Christ II' than 'Twitter Truth to Power' and 'Let's Go Crazy at Prom Tonight.'

Well, it's obviously just a starting point: Don't write music aimed at the 12-17 demographic. Ok, check. Don't write overt hymns to the Hebrew God and the Holy Spirit. Ok, check.

Now that I think about it, U2 only began writing songs specifically aimed at teens starting this decade, and the shamelessness of this move has been increasing with each album, culminating with Crazy Tonight and Stand Up Comedy. They need to go back to writing adult music only. If they do...
