U2 in Vegas - Tips for booking hotels, flights and other Vegasy type things.

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Which hotel?

Joyful and I have reservations at both El Cortez and Sahara (waiting to hear if El Cortez has what we need, with Sahara as a backup). Something else (beyond U2) is going on that weekend and hotels on the strip are the most expensive I've ever seen them. It's the weekend of Nov 3–5.

You don't need to rent a car. Uber will be fine.

Getting to Venetian won't be a problem. Getting out? Sure it'll be harder - but be smart and simply walk across the street to a less busy hotel like Treasure Island and grab an Uber from there.

There's also The Deuce bus which stops at Sahara and also stops on Fremont Street.

Parking isn't the easiest thing in the world by Sphere so if you can avoid driving? Avoid driving.

I've never stayed at El Cortez but it's one of my favorite places to gamble.

We used Uber a lot when over there and never had to wait more than 7 or 8 minutes for one, even at busy times of the day and night.

We got and Uber down to the Sphere and hopped out once we got really close as traffic was a bit mad so walked the last 5 minutes or so.

Post-gig, once you've got out of the immediate area with a 10 minute walk, there's lots of options for transport like @Headache says.

Cheap and easy, especially if you're only going as far as the north end of The Strip

This is all really helpful - thank you. I usually drive to Las Vegas and am used to having a car while there. Was also worried about surge pricing with Uber/Lyft.

I'm staying at the Linq for my new trip, was going to stay at Harrah's for the trip I cancelled.

According to Google maps they are both pretty much equally close to the Sphere and equally walkable, hope that's true.

It figures that with all the high tech ingenuity they couldn't find a way to avoid bottleneck exiting from the building. I guess being round is part of the problem, but there must be a way around that. It sounds like trying to exit ancient Fenway Park.

I don't think you HAVE to take the pedestrian bridge, it's just that most people do. First night we actually walked outside first and then got on the bridge from the outside.

And Linq is highly walkable to and from Venetian. It's where I stayed. Everything is further than you think in Vegas, but it was an easy walk.

Getting through Venetian can be confusing. Best to enter straight into the casino from the Strip vs cutting through the Grand Canal Shoppes. More direct.

Yeah, you definitely don’t have to go out that way. I exited from GA the way we came in, directly outside. It was a normal post-concert crowd, nothing really claustrophobic.

…I suppose if you’re not in GA, you’d have to get down to the GA level via the escalators or elevator first to exit that way, might be tricky but then, probably not a lot of people would be trying to go that way so maybe doable?

Where would this rank on your list of Highest of High End to Stabbed By a Meth Head, Headache?

I'm in town for the next three nights at least. Avoiding most threads ahead of my show tonight. Who's in town at the moment? Any meetups happening?

Keep your head down and don't deviate from the Boulevard and you should be able to get by with only being stabbed twice.

It's a super depressing hostel, too. I just came from a fantastic one in Marina Del Rey. It's small, no one really staying there, I was in a dorm on my own, common areas suck. :sigh:

In all honesty? It's a Wednesday night. Take a look downtown... El Cortez, Plaza, The D... or on The Strip at Linq, Treasure Island, Luxor, Excalibur.

There have to be some decent rates available.

FYI construction in the area continues for the F1 race...the Flamingo/Koval intersection is getting a bridge built over it, they appeared to be close to finished as of yesterday. Flamingo isn't open to cars in some spots near there but pedestrians are OK.

I had to sell the October GA I had but I had good fortune again with the presale! I'm booking things today and locking in this trip.

I'm wondering if anyone who has gone to any of the recent shows has good or bad experiences to share from their hotel stays.

Presale? My wife and I are U2 fans, been to many shows. So, I am hearing of "Ultra fans", what is that? Some sort of secret paid into club ? These clubs and the ultra rich and scalpers/megaresellers getting access to tickets BEFORE fans like us is getting out of hand.

Wish there was a way to fairly distribute and especially block out mega resellers/scalpers, etc...and let every day regular people get access to events. Like this and many other events.

Ridiculous :(

It's U2's fan club website, U2.com. If you and your wife are fans, surely you're aware of it.

Ultra is not some secret. It's a priority level of membership for these shows at U2.com.
There were 2 tiers Ultra and Violet (I think you can get the reference)

For the fan club presales they would process Ultra orders first. Ultra group was members in good paid standing prior to the original announcement of these shows last spring(Maybe February). Violet group was for those who signed up after the initial announcement.

It was just a way to prioritize those who have maintained fan club membership vs. those who sign up only once they see a tour (or in this case residency) announced.

Yeah, I often let the membership lapse too (unintentionally, but it's easy to do I don't typically visit the site - I lurk here instead), but somehow I'm an ultra.

I've been going to U2 concerts since October 1987, and the few times that I've sold tickets it's been for face value. It might be ridiculous that I'm going to Las Vegas to see U2 and that I cried a little the first weekend of these shows because I'd sold my October tickets, but I don't think it's ridiculous that I got tickets.

I imagine the pickens will be slim for the public sale. I can't be bothered with the U2 fan club stuff, but every presale, I regret it when the GA's are sold out. Have not seen the show yet, even though I live in SoCal. Hoping for something. We will see in a couple of days. I missed out last go.

If you keep an eye on the FB fan pages stuff pops up at face all the time. Or you could just refresh the TM page alllllll the time

Getting to the end of our 2 week driving trip from Minneapolis to Las Vegas. Visited 3 National Parks on the way to Vegas and 3 on the way back. Went to the 10/18 show in GA.

Stayed at the Linq which was great for walking to the show but had a couple of bad experiences with them.

The good: walking to Sphere was easy, just exit back of Promenade next to the Linq and zigzag over to Sphere. We did not do morning numbers and got in line about 5:30. Without rushing we ended up about 10 rows back centered between Bono and Edge. Great view!

The bad at Linq: toilet in room did not work and after 4 hours waiting for repairs they could not tell us if or when it would be repaired so moved us to another room at midnight after long day of driving. The jerk cashier did not accept my military ID for free parking that first night so I was quite upset (supervisor got my free parking setup the next morning - we were there 4 nights.)

The really bad at Linq: someone attempted to break into our car in the Linq parking lot the final night. They managed to get most of the driver side door lock removed but did not get in. I suspect they got scared off. Thankfully they didn’t do more damage and the door still works - just no key access anymore.

Loved the concert and would love to see them again from seats but too exhausted and broke to plan it now![emoji4]

I miss the days of the $1 table at the Sahara. You could easily find $5 tables through the mid 00’s. Then $10 was the norm. Haven’t been to Vegas much in the last decade but $25 blackjack table is too rich for my blood.
