Where have all the U2 discussions gone?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

I know I must be missing something, but interference used to be the best place to have U2 discussions on the latest topics... but there is hardly anyone here (or on @U2's forum either).
I barely see anyone talking on reddit's U2band area, and zootopia is mostly presale problems threads.

Even interference doesn't have a JT2019 content area, just the old one: The Joshua Tree 2017 - Tour Central (1 Viewing)

Is there a super secret forum somewhere that I don't know about?

I wanted to post that there are plenty of GAs left for the 2nd JT2019 show (in Auckland), but I have no idea where to reach those interested!

The thread right below this one:

http://www.u2interference.com/forum...te-2019-tour-of-australia-nz-asia-222619.html

is where the upcoming tour is being discussed.
It started out a while ago as speculation but now that the tour has come to fruition most of the discussion about the dates including ticket sales is going on there.

However they need more license plates in the gift shop.

Yeah, over time, interest and discussion, even among longtime fans, is going to decrease.

If this was a new album or tour you’d see more talk but this isn’t, and on top of that it’s a reheating of a 2 year-old anniversary tour so there’s not much to talk about unless you’re living in Asia or one of those godforsaken places where toilets flush backwards.

The “between album” lulls in ‘07-08, ‘12-13 were offset by new fans they’d picked up in the last cycle exploring this place. I don’t get the impression the SOI/SOE era added many people to the U2 community.

I spend much more time over on U2Start. Like here, there's lots of knowledgeable fans who are passionate about the band. They're based in Europe, but have members from all over. I'd say they are much more interested in a tour happening on far flung shores, some of their mods will be travelling a long way to see the shows. Shock horror, they even have a Joshua Tree Tour 2019 section!

There's plenty of interesting content about the upcoming tour, like a "who's going?" poll, a very difficult "U2 in Australia" quiz,

https://u2start.com/quiz/7/

And this interesting "Under Australian Skies" slideshow,

Join up, you'll be welcomed with open arms.

In general, members there are also friendlier. They don't just have a single thread about the upcoming tour, titled something about a "hypothetical setlist", which has now become a spat about how to say "Melbourne" :crack:

It’s not a tour of the US, so it doesn’t count here

So true. Go figure :reject:

True. The touring and new album releases tend to be the times people come out of the woodwork.

I see these discussion on other band forums too though (decrease of message board traffic, etc.). I think some of it might have to do with how far the Internet's come in the past 20 years or so. Back then, you had sites like this to provide a lot of discussion and photos/links to music or video/so forth. But nowadays, you have Twitter/Facebook/Instagram/YouTube to keep up with all sorts of visual and audio media, as well as the fans you want to stay in touch with. And certain accounts and groups there are devoted to this band as well, which I'm sure helps drive some fan traffic over to those sorts of things.

That said, I think there will probably always be places like this around for the bigger bands. Reddit hasn't exactly fallen off a bridge yet either, so I think discussion websites will probably be around for awhile yet for whatever topics people are interested in talking about.
