How many tickets do you think U2 can sell in the US in November?
Given the fact that 1 ticket = 1 album sale, it's pretty sure they will hit number 1 on sales charts.

I feel cheated as I pre-ordered the album and have not been given an American Soul download, I'm in the UK too so no idea why I haven't got it, wish I knew why it's worked for some and not others

The Blackout is good. GOO Your Own Way is generic. It's fine enough until you get to that shitty outro. Imagine the flak Bono would get if he sung the "blessed are the superstars" line himself, it's such a ham-fisted attempt at self-deprecating sarcasm. And what the hell is with the song just suddenly cutting off? Good lord, at least put the track break somewhere sensible.

I am sure we can count on axver to trash GOOYOW mercilessly.

Looks like we don't need me to do that. I definitely don't feel as savage about it as some other posters!

Here, I'll distill it in a couple of sentences:

"This song is just utter garbage, and is terrible. U2 used to be musically adventurous and challenge its listeners. Zooropa, Pop, Passengers, blah blah blah. This is just paint-by-numbers, over-produced, cheesy pop trash trying to be relevant and failing"

You're not even good at stalking me, you dumb fucknoodle. Nineties U2 had many laudable qualities but eighties U2 is where it's at. Perhaps the first time I've been grouped in with the nineties fanboys.

But thanks for playing!

An album sale will be counted for every ticket sold, as long as it's actually redeemed by the person later on via an e-mail link or whatever will be used. That's how it's worked for other bands recently anyway.

edit: PRE-ORDER SONGS OF EXPERIENCE IN NORTH AMERICA
Please note: Every ticket purchased will include one (1) copy of U2’s new album, "Songs of Experience", to be released December 1, 2017. Be on the lookout for a separate email with instructions around how you can redeem your album(s).

What’s the point of pre ordering the album in North America? It doesn’t give one a special code like Euro...and we get the album free when we buy 1 ticket in our presale.

Or have I missed something?

Agreed, Nick -- I feel like you could put BD beside GOOYOW and see exactly where modern-day Bono has slid more toward making ill-phrased "statements" and away from anything like poetic suggestiveness.

I dunno, I'd put the lyrics of these two songs at fairly even territory.

BD:
The heart is a bloom
Shoots up through the stony ground
There's no room
No space to rent in this town
You're out of luck
And the reason that you had to care
The traffic is stuck
And you're not moving anywhere
You thought you'd found a friend
To take you out of this place
Someone you could lend a hand
In return for grace

Get Out:
Love hurts. Now you’re the girl that’s left with no words
Your heart’s a balloon, but then it bursts
It doesn’t take a cannon just to pin your skins – no covering
And resistance, love has got to fight for its existence
The enemy is armies of assistance (???)
The amorous, the glamorous, a kiss, a fist – Listen to this…

The weakest part to me in Get Out is the:
She had a plan until she got a smack in the mouth and it all went south...

But not any worse to me than the Bedouin fires and tuna fleets bit in BD...

I agree that the lyrical directness and even music directness that the band has adapted to, often leaves me wanting something more. But I think ATYCLB was just as bad as anything since. SOI was a breath of fresh air in some ways, cause things seemed to flow better.

I still have solid hopes for this album. Right now it has me questioning if it will be SOI level for me. But there are a lot of songs left to hear.

It has to actually be redeemed by the person who bought the ticket to count towards sales. It won't count towards sales just by the ticket sale alone. But yeah, it will count if redeemed via the e-mail link.

Via U2 mods Twitter account now:
2 ticket allocation for #VerifedFan @U2.com subscribers can be split over 2 shows. #U2eiTour

Yeah, doesn't really work like that. Say they put 15 shows on sale before the Dec 1st date. Possibly they sell 200,000 tix or more. But its not automatic, after Dec 1 once the album is availbable. The ticket buyers need to use a voucher that they get via email to get the album.

So lots of people may not do this right away, or they may not do it at all. Say you buy 4 tickets for your family. You may only redeem 1 or 2 albums since you can share or whatever.

Best case, they MAY get half of that number to redeem the album.
So possibly another 75 to 100k in album sales number for the first week could be expected i think.

I’m pretty sure they do nowadays.

Well then yeah, it makes sense that U2 is doing it as a way to chart. They don't need to give the record away to sell tickets...the tour will sell out anyway and no one buys a U2 ticket for a freebie.

So yeah, I guess it's a way to artificially inflate the chart position, which in turn leads to good publicity. For U2 the record sales don't matter anyway, the tour is where the dollars, pounds and euros are. But charting #1 (even via gimmick) I guess is good for the whole "relevance" thing.

Anyone in Canada figure where to pre-order the album and get the 3 new tracks?

Doesn't appear to be on Amazon.ca yet..

Thanks

Yeah, I'm confused. If I get tickets to the concert then I get the album for free. But isn't it saying you need to pre-order to be eligible for the Verified Fan pre-sale? Also, doesn't really help me if I want the deluxe edition, does it?

Basically the band raised tickets by $10+ and are throwing an album in that many won't claim because they'll already have it?

Correct me if I have any of this wrong.

I think you're correct. Part of the pain of being a huge fan. Normal everyday folks will buy their tickets and get the album and go on their way. But we, who pre-order instantly, get different versions, etc... don't really get a benefit.

As much as I might differ from you on recent U2 music, we are very much on the same page with regard to 80s and 90s U2.

80s was other worldly for sure.
