I am not sure we can gain much from anything shared, it's all pretty standard/generic. It sounds like everything from HTDAAB to SOI

Us U2 fans will love it (though not Interference U2 fans ;) )

It sounds like something from their past

Bono singing like a bird

For those of us that want something different, I think the words a departure, or innovative (whatever that means) would be better buzzwords.

I think we'll get a similar album to SOI, with maybe more buzz sound from Edge, as that's about the only clue we've got haha

This guy also heard it, but can't say too much (he can only say we as U2 fans will love it): https://twitter.com/markcunning/status/900720866220285952

I like that! Goes along with the comment about the songs fitting well with their older material. And if the song at the end of the Edge Fender video is any indication, yes, that is pure classic older U2 sound, with a 90's crunchy riff thrown in.

super excited. Thanks again for searching these out.

True, that it's a given that most U2 fans will love the album. But, I can't say that I'd be disappointed with SOI type material but more raw, driven, Edge heavy. That was probably the biggest critique of SOI.

Listened thru SOI yesterday, and it's really, really good. Save SFS and The Miracle which are both mediocre, the rest really shines IMO. Even Reach, which i didn't like for about 2 years now has grown a lot on me. All the rest I loved from the start and still listen to regularly, which i can't say for any other post 2000 U2 material.

Older = 80's U2 or 90's U2 though ?

I think we will get at range of it. The blackout descriptions seem to lean toward the 90's sound. The Fender video had a distinct 80's sound with Bono singing, but a cool AB/POP type riff from the Edge.

SOI was like this. Volcano, at least vocally harkened to the early 80's style. RBW had sort of a 90's type musical feel, SLABT, The Troubles, are 90's style.

I'm hoping with the couple of comments from the DJ's, that we are looking at signature U2 80's and 90's sounds with a new freshness. To me - that is way better than them saying, It's got the feel of ATYCLB or HTDAAB...:down:

Was in the car a half hour ago and listening to radio with Carter Alan as DJ. After he played Vertigo he said (paraphrasing)"From what I've heard so far of the new album its a rock album whereas the last album was a pop album", so clearly he must have attended a listening party when the band played Foxboro.

Haha. And we've heard in here that it's more of a Pop record (with bigger guitars)

Who knows. But we should know more next week.

I wonder if it'll be a true album, where there's a mood and flow between the songs.

Or more of a HTDAAB where it came across as a bunch of songs/singles

I think a couple weeks ago we got into the whole "what is pop" discussion on here, and someone, maybe you BEAL, made a great point that AB had a lot of songs with pop sensibilities to them. As did POP I would say... So if we get songs with that sort of foundation but with tougher Edge sounds and a little more on the live/raw side of things, I think most of us will be pleased.

Now we already know that TBT is more pop, Little Things is a slower song that builds to a bit of a rock ending, and the Summer of Love is very spare, open and pretty sounding. Only The Blackout has been described as a bit harder rock/pop song.

So I guess we must be in for quite a few more rocking tunes...

Oh yeah! Forgot about that one!
Also, hard to tell about Civilization/The Light... Big drum break, but not a lot of info on the rest...

that's an interesting one. It's mentioned as groovy, and a big ending.. but doesnt seem very popular with those who've heard it
