like, he was a part of fun., the group that everybody forgot already at this pt. those songs were catchy but not memorable, honestly.

(actually i saw Nate Russ, the singer in that band, in Bernie Sanders' rally, which was weird)

Fun and their lame punctuation was trash, but I don't mind the couple Bleachers singles Im aware of. I actually bought that one album with I Wanna Get Better on it but never listened to it. But I had to google who the guy was cos I didn't know his name at all. I haven't heard a word about him, overrated or underrated.

The new Bleachers album is baaaad outside of the song with Carly Rae Jepsen on it. Which sounds incredibly fanboyish, but Hate That You Know Me would be a good song even without her vocals.

I only know Jack because youtube really recommended watching that video of him in studio. that looked pretty sweet, full of all kinds of gear that every musician wants, like Binson Echorec (famous echo unit used by David Gilmour) and Minimoog and such.

EDIT: there it is.

i mean look at this, this room filled with all kinds of things that we all want, like Yamaha DX7, that digital Mellotron, Oberheim synth, etc, on top of all kinds of EQs and compressors.

Chicago Midway: the worst airport in the United States. Rude employees, long lines, terrible food choices, limited seating, and worst of all, no internet. Compounding all this are the hoards of country bumpkins who have no idea how to fly and get in fights with TSA over taking their shoes off etc.

Lovely, I have to connect through Midway next month on my way to LA and back.

At least I won't have to go through the TSA line, just switch planes (and was planning on eating, not happy you mentioned terrible food choices).

Guys this Slowdive album is legit album of the year right now. I slept on this band for WAY too long.

Such a shitty band but the dude always went for it with his vocals. And I respect that. Sad for him and his friends and family.

Absolutely speechless, so damn tragic.

Can't imagine what his family and bandmates are going through. They have made some great music over the years, his voice will be missed.

So I guess he was good friends with Chris Cornell. I wonder if that sort of played into his decision to end his own life. So sad. And his body was found today, what would have been Cornell's birthday.

happy birthday danny papz. :D

in unrelated news, hall and oates might be the most underrated group in the history of the universe.
You mean overrated, right? The unabashed love for them lately everywhere I turn is absurd.

Yet everyone I know always insist on flying through there because it's easier to get to than O'Hare. (I love O'Hare.)

absolutely stunned by this :(

i actually really like Linkin Park, love some of their songs... my kids only saw them a few weeks ago at Download in Paris... heartbreaking for his family... just tragic...

They became a shitty band, but those first two albums, Hybrid Theory and Meterora, were immense. A huge part of my teenage years and they were everywhere. I'm really sad.

Hybrid Theory was my second metal album, and the first one I loved all the way through. I cranked it all the time when I was 13. It was definitely a gateway drug to heavier music.

I didn't particularly care for Meteora and quickly moved away from Linkin Park. In fact the couple of times I've gone back to Hybrid Theory in the last few years, I've been surprised how little nostalgic appreciation I have for it. There's a lot of other music from that period that I wouldn't rate now, but still enjoy because of what it evokes.

But I'm going to give it a spin today.

(The first metal album? I really liked Metallica's The Unforgiven II, so I made the mistake of buying Reload.)

Nah they were always an awful band. Nu metal? Yikes.

Might have been a generational thing. If they came out today with that music I'd probably hate it, but at the time, 12, 13, 14 years old it was perfect - accessible, non-threatening rock music that was heavy enough to make you feel cool but not heavy enough to be intimidating. Clear vocals. Mixed with hip-hop sounds. Singalong choruses. It was perfect for the time.

I'm listening to it today for the first time in what I'm sure is more than a decade. Bringing back a lot of memories. Crawling, I still remember the video to this song. Meteora (is that a Maori word by the way?) was a little poppier, had a few more hip-hop sort of beats and things so I loved that record.
