Berlin #1 Setlist Party

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Then you tell me what to do with LIB 2006 or Norwegian Wood 2005 or Wake Up Dead Man 2001. That last one is especially glaring, yet nobody questions it.

To an extent problematic, yes, but all examples completely independent of the songs before or after. Unlike this one which clearly segues into Streets. Not to mention that the music is at least as sparse as those three examples - but probably more when comparing it to the respective originals. And I've already mentioned at least three other examples which are as worthy, if not more of an independent spot if you apply to same criteria to them, yet they are labelled as snippets (as they should be, don't get me wrong).

In any case, you're probably disappointing a couple of U2gigs lurkers who go apeshit when seeing Zooropa on the setlist and then experiencing that. I remember being bummed when buying the Elevation Boston DVD, seeing Wake Up Dead Man on the setlist and hearing what is musically closer to the original than this particular excerpt of Zooropa.

My suggestion (or what I'd do) would be to introduce "medley" - like All I Want Is You/Bad in Sydney 1989 and Bad/The First Time in Chicago 2005. It ain't perfect, but I feel it's the closest one can get to describing this arrangement. Or even have "abridged" description alongside Wake Up Dead Man, Love is Blindness, Unchained Melody and so on.

And this is honestly the last time I shall speak of the issue.

MWays, EBW, Pride, WOWY and COBL.. I would drop them all.
Crystal Ballroom, Reach Me Now and Pop songs should be thrown in. Full band, no lazy versions.

For that matter, I don't necessarily think Iris, SFS or Cedarwood need to be played every night. I know they are integral for the visuals. they could be rotated with other new songs if it weren't for the immovable first set being so dependent on those visuals. Make a second innocence themed set using "reach me now", "volcano" and "California" that is just as good as the Iris/Cedarwood/SFS portion. NONE of them are crucial to have in the setlist.

Song for Someone shouldn't be played anywhere in the universe in any context.

I honestly didn't think Cedarwood Rd, Iris, Raised by wolves, and ESPECIALLY IMVISIBLE would be played every single gig. Nor did I think Volcano would be a rarity, or that California would be dropped like a hot potato, especially since those 2 songs seemed destined to be singles. Not really complaining, just surprised.

WUDM is just a Stuck or Walk On intro though.

Don't think we haven't tried. We've run through multiple "medley" ideas (in no small part because listing The Cry by itself is absurd - again another thing nobody complains about, and what about An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart?). We just can't get the coding to work.

"Abridged" could be an option though, and may be more feasible than anything we've tried with "medley".

I'll throw down a fairly large bet that Stay shows up in Berlin

I wish they'd at least give it the zoo TV full band acoustic treatment. Do a theowback e stage set and have AOH/Stay, and tell Desire to fuck off.

Frankly, if some of you people complaining about this stuff put half the effort into finding a way to code this shit, it would be appreciated.

Just got out of class. Zoo Station! Love it, can't wait to see video.

Word.

Honestly, to me the distinction between a snippet and a full song is partly length, but also very much to do with the original music. Zooropa has a significant amount of musical contribution - deceivingly so because of the atmospheric nature of the interpretation.

"But what about Mother and Child Reunion"? I hear you say. The difference with other snippets is that Edge is just playing some chords in the key of the following song to allow Bono to sing the melody.

Yeah seriously, everybody give the guy a break. This guy gives us one of the greatest fan resources available for ANY BAND. If he wants to call it a SONG instead of a SNIPPET, that's his call.

Frankly, I say leave it as a song... Makes the setlist look a whole lot better if nothing else!

I was there tonight  I can't speak for the entire arena but my GA neighbors where the best freaking audience neighbors I've ever experienced!! I was happ to geek out at "zoo station" hours before the show and geek out more at the Hansa Studios tour. The fact that this song was added was a fan cherry on top. I was shocked how awesome & energetic the audience was during I will follow, pride, SBS, & one, as if they were brand new. E stage was awesome even during the Elevation train wreck lol I'd experience U2 in Berlin again in a heartbeat. So happy to be able to see them at a bucket list city !!
