Shuttlecock XI: Yes Virginia, You Did Save Bono's Life

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

If they don't manage to cross paths at least once with Lykke Li so she can perform it live with them, it's a major failure.

My first thought just now was that if the Stones can take that lovely woman who sings Gimme Shelter on tour with them just for one song (?), U2 couldn't take Lykke Li out with them?

There are probably good reasons for them not to do this, though. I just can't think of any right now.

Lykke canceled her tour earlier this year due to acute exhaustion. She's just not in any shape to tour with anyone.

Why she couldn't come out for one song at one show, I have no idea.

Upon revisiting SOI, I've noticed a few tracks moved around in my rankings since hearing them live. The Miracle is sounding petty good to me now, but I find the studio version overproduced. It doesn't hit as hard as it should. Volcano has dropped. It's a huge mess and the bridge is a total miss. The last five tracks are pretty good but studio Cedarwood sounds like a band rocking in theory instead of actually rocking.

What I got out of this listen is:

1. The live performances of these songs are very good.

2. I actively dislike the performances and production on many of these songs. I don't think the material is all that great, but there's something very uninspiring about the album that simply wasn't present when I heard the songs live.

Basically, I gained a new appreciation for I+E after returning to SOI. This is not a compliment to SOI, but praise for U2 as a live act. They've still got it.

Like Larry said (!), the album is too glossy sounding. Honestly everything apart from the last three or four tracks makes me a feel a little diabetic.

As if the members of U2 bother to do nything thst doesn't earn them fifty thousand million buckaroos.

Lisa Fischer? I think she sings backup with them throughout the whole show, it's just that Gimme Shelter features her.

I've seen her in concert twice now at a Seattle's Jazz Alley. She is FUCKING AMAZING.

Yeah she is a backup singer (along with Bernard Fowler) for the entire show, but duets on Gimme Shelter.

I don't generally use my iPhone for music but my iPod drowned a sad death and so I'm trying to shift over to the phone for a road trip and was honestly trying to figure out how to delete songs from my iPhone when I found this which made me laugh (bad fan):

I find iTunes increasingly not user friendly though it is likely user error. :grumpy:

Nah, I don't think it's user error. iTunes has gotten worse with every single iteration. I'm slowly shifting towards Spotify, at least for my streaming needs.

Agreed. Apple Music was a complete mess too.

Bono talked to an Irish reporter about the new album. Next year, he says!

Granted, Bono apparently also later on in the interview admitted he is the "least reliable" in U2 when it comes to album releases. Ha.

Say it again! A third time! Bono will seem like less of a cockteasing asshole if you say it a third time!

SOE will come out in 2021, supported by the Experience + Ascent Tour.

This was their chance to finally name an album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bob. Missed opportunity.
