U2 KROQ Show

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
So just say for instance I seen that you couldn't line up until 5:30 didn't check any other site all day, arrived earlier than the line nazis and took my spot at the front of the line, do you really expect me to leave my spot because you say you decided to make a list at 9am? Na don't think so

The problem is that no one is going to make you leave your spot. People will just step into line 5, 10, 20 or whatever spots in front of you. And unless you're ready to start beating people up and probably get thrown out by security for being the troublemaker, there's just nothing you can do about it. :(

I'm not saying I have the answers to this problem. Only that it's pretty disheartening to stand in line for many hours sometimes, only to be pushed back farther and farther in line as people show up fresh from naps, showers, work, whatever, and take their spot ahead of you, without doing any of the waiting.

Well as said lets see if this happens in Glasgow because if it does a lot of shit will go down

Just start another line titled..."Those who are staying here, and going in before anyone that arrives after me."

Not sure I'm engaging in this conversation, but this will be my last post on this topic.

Serious question regarding this comment: how do you propose this should work, it the venue states that no one can line up until exactly 5:30? Should the 200 or so people who are there at 5:30 line up somewhere else on Sunset Blvd, just outside of the "don't line up here" zone, and then all head to the lineup area when the venue says it's okay? This seems like it would result in complete chaos and a whole lot of fighting. Is there another way this could work in a calm manner? And don't just say "come back when you're supposed to be there", because when 200 people are trying to do that, and most of them would like to be as close to the front to the line as possible, this wouldn't go smoothly.

And as for Lazarus, who referred to my "sad little VIP circle", as a guy who before this week had seen the band "only" eight times, has never before had anything to do with running a line of any sort, and only has a dozen posts on this site, my sad little circle must be pretty damn tiny. I received a lot of thanks from both people wanting to get into the show and from security and even LA County Sheriffs for helping to maintain some semblance of order outside the venue. I know there's a lot of anger here about the lists, and I'm not changing anybody's mind with this post, but from what I saw, things seemed to run pretty nicely. If anyone has any ideas on a better way to handle a situation like yesterday, I'd love to hear it in case I ever end up in a similar situation at another show.

The way to handle the situation is to stop giving a shit about whether you are front row or third row.

Well, first off it's not up to you to "handle" the situation at all. It's up to the Roxy security and LAPD. Think about it, what if someone or several other people all decide to have their own lineup sign in sheets - what makes their more or less legitimate than yours? Sure you're probably going to get thanks from staff and the LAPD - you're doing their jobs for them. But the flipside is this can turn horribly wrong for a whole lotta reasons and I've seen firsthand such situations become brawls.

And the fact people can just show up in the morning, "sign in" with some fan(s) and go screw around for the rest of the day and come back at 5:30 or so to get a great place in line while the average person not plugged into this wonderful little clique who followed the stated venue rules and showed up late in the afternoon to find he's in a line where people are coming in front of him because they signed some knucklehead's lineup sheet is just bullshit.

I think situations like this where there's knowledge days in advance a major band is playing a special show at a club like this it's really impossible to keep diehard fans from showing up and lining up early and any problems that ensue because of that falls on the promoters, venue and even the band. Random wristbands is probably the best way to handle these types of lineup problems. This is a good example of why The Rolling Stones hold off until the day of a special club-type show to announce and sell tickets so to lessen these specific kinds of overnight crowd control problems.

And let me be clear about one thing, which I've said recently - I have no problem with the ultra diehard fans who follow the band around, camp for days on in to get prime spots, etc. IMO, someone wants to devote that kind of time, money and effort to see some band only a few feet away, good for them. That's the thing about GA, those willing to put out the most effort should earn the right to stand where ever they want.

U2's crew was instructed by the company doing the film production to pull "good looking" people from the line late in the afternoon to get in early for key spots

I've read about this for years now. Can I take it there are no "good looking" members of the line nazis/stalkers/uber fans then?

If Brad Pitt or Farrah Fawcett Majors were line nazi's, would they have broken rank? What would the others had thought? Would they be ousted from the inner circle?

Just wondering that's all...

They camp out a lot, in all weathers, feel the need to make lists to make them feel superior and part of the bands inner circle (which they ain't) think this gives a good clue what they look like

Maybe U2 should go back to all reserved seating like the good ol' days. I remember what fun it was trying to get good floor seats for the War, UF, Joshua Tree and 1st leg ZooTV tours.

It's not rocket science. You show up when the venue allows. PERIOD. Guess what? I showed up before Romi, I made my own list, I was first and my 7 friends gave me their names, they'll be back at door opening. Are Romi and I suppose to arm wrestle or play U2 Jeopardy in order to see whose list holds up? He'd lose at both. You're all entitled George Zimmerman wannabe cops assigning yourself a title you didn't deserve nor were you elected for.

Yea, I have this policy myself. I have waited in exactly one line for all my GA shows, and usually show up at door time, and get in line. Done.

Well, it's in the eye of the beholder, isn't it?

I mean come on, making a list for a venue that holds 500? Behave yourself and get a life, and we even seen the pic of the same guy who was pulled up on stage waiting outside the venue, this is all getting towards stalker status and makes it more apparent why the band done the lottery during vertigo

Fucking hell this thread is incredible. Not stopped laughing. How can anyone justify showing up first thing in the morning at a fucking CLUB and starting a list to ensure they get to the front??

There are so many posts in the last few pages that I want to quote simply to give them a huge thumbs up, but ill just say Lazarus is basically bang on, here...

This entire thread is gold. The first 20 pages of KROQ bashing is hilarious, but the line nazis' Fourth Reich takes it to another level.

The only things missing from this thread are:

- Nick/Gabe battle

- u2girl taking a stance and then posting the complete opposite stance 2 pages later prompting Headache to respond with "You complete me"

- Someone's church getting a phone call.

All you people who show up and expect to get in before those in line ARE the ones who get shamed in to leaving. Don't think yesterdays line was sanctioned? Ask the sheriff's department, the venue security, and U2.com. Hell, ask Baja Girl. All of you threatening violence or just saying that you ignore li es and go on in, tell me when that worked for you. Don't think there's a line for tomorrow's show because that's the venue rules? Why don't you drive by the forum right now and take a look. And beyond that, if you cant believe what you see with your eyes, I don't care what you think.

The entire problem is showing up expecting anything. Your first sentence reveals your mindset. Show up and watch a good show. If you have a seat expect a specific spot. If you are GA find your way to a place to stand. This isn't hard ... unless you are entitled.
