U2 (Minus Bono) playing in NYC Tonight

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

In other notes, sad to say that I think there were more people there for Kanye than for anyone else.
It was obvious from the tweets and the crowd noise in the broadcast, but that's fine. If it was U2 only, it would have been completely different.

Glad you had fun!

Id have went there for Carrie Underwood over that blow hard Kanye West anytime - if nothing more then something nice to look at.

watching the ESPN broadcast on my dvr is much better than the youtube I sent to my TV from my android phone, the cable audio broadcast is so much better, the band does sound (and looks) great.

for those of you that missed it, here are some pictures

Stepping in for an iconic singer and singing another band's songs isn't exactly a very thankful thing to do. U2's songs are hard to sing. Chris and Bruce did what they can do but no one can replace Bono, in fact no one can replace anyone. One good thing about that show is that it really shows how good B is and how much he's missed. But it was a good show overall and an important cause and day. I'm sure Bono was proud of the band playing after all.

With U2 being complete I'm sure we've had heard more new songs since this concert could have been considered part of the promo tour.

Good to see Bill Clinton being there as well. He said he received an email from Bono asking him to open. (RED) is mostly Bono's work. Social Media was all (RED) yesterday. It's incredible what Bono has achieved here, let's be a little PROUD of him.

While I agree that Bono was missed, I think Chris sang WOWY better than Bono has over the last 15 years or so. He just doesn't seem too bothered about singing it properly anymore.

I have been disappointed by Bono's live performances of WOWY and now will have to shut my mouth. I'm a Chris and Coldplay fan, but Bono singing it poorly was better than Chris giving it his all.

Last unicorn I concur 100% with your last two posts.

Carrie Underwood is great. Kanye is

Bruce gave it his passion as always.

No one has vocals like Bono, no one.

And, his stage presence was sorely missed. At the end, it just ended. How much did we need Bono there to talk too much to remind us why/what they just did?!

Get well, Bono. You are sorely missed and much needed on many fronts!

Well done to all the performers, even Kanye for showing up but shame on him for fussing at his crew/soundman during his song. Wow!

Bono singing from his bed in Ireland, all high on morphine would've been better than what I just witnessed. I wish him a speedy recovery because I won't be able to survive any future SUBSTITU2....

Probably the only highlight of the concert was seeing the sheer joy on Martin's face from being the lead in U2, for one night only. He's hardly hid his admiration for the band and Bono over the years, and you can just tell, he's dreamt of this moment for years, yet never thought it would actually happen!

That being said, his vocals were weak, but Beautiful Day absolutely wasn't the right song, as already mentioned by others. He's no replacement for Bono, just like Bono would be no replacement for Martin in Coldplay. As for Bruce, I had to turn off Streets two verses in, it was too painful...

Chris was adorable. He was nervous and giddy. He said, "Dreams Come True." I think he's a great soul. His vocals never really have power and that's something Bono definitely uses.

Oddly, Bruce was all power, but no vocals in the sense of it being melodic.

Surreal night. Sweet of them to do it. Larry was great.

No one can replace Bono ever.

I think this all shows how important Bono is to this band,

There's a reason why U2 don't do many covers, just as there's a reason why others don't cover U2 very often... and when they do it's radically different.

I don´t know how Bono manages it, but he always sang others songs differently and it´s usually beautiful. Remember Yellow from Glastonbury? One of the highlights of the show.

Bono is the main part of u2,did people not know this before last night?

im hearing alot of comments like " oh this shows how important Bono is"

Did people really not know this before hand.

Without Bono theres no U2!!!

You only realize what you´ve got at the moment when you lost it...

nope, annoying singers without charisma in their voice

Solo you just completely gave away your utter trolly troll trollingness.... Because in the Best Covers thread you named The Killers Ultraviolet as the best, and a few minutes later you're in here saying Brandon Flowers is annoying and without charisma and would be a bad choice as a fill in.

Well done, Dr. Trollingstein.
