The Miracle (of Joey Ramone) - Song Discussion

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

You know when I play the album and this song comes on.....I'm still digging it.

Good tune, not great, but good!

That's really neat! Miracle is in heavy rotation on my local Adult Alternative station. I hear it almost every time I have it on.

I don't get the complaints about this song at all. It is still one of the best on the album, IMO. The video is atrocious though.

I've read several comments around here about the video being bad but I like it. It's much better than The video for Boots and more interesting than the Crazy Tonight cartoon video(I like the performance video).

At least the Boots video looks like it was fun to make. It's totally ugly, bizarre and meaningless but it's not without its charms. The Miracle video looks like something a person just learning video editing would come up with, right down to the single overused effect. It's like an even less attractive I Will Follow.

The Vertigo video was the absolute worst for me! Stuck In A Moment (US version) and Elevation weren't far behind. The one for Boots somehow I don't remember too well. I think I didn't bother watching it more than once.

I thought the Vertigo video won a Grammy?....I like it.
The Stuck video is freakin hilarious.

Vertigo video did not do the song justice. I think I recall them having to start the video all over again for some reason and it ended up with the black smoke from Lost somehow.

For me Boots is one of their best videos ever. It´s very funny, fresh and original and it goes perfectly with the theme of the song. I´m still shocked how many people didn´t get the message of the song and the video.

Miracle is quite a good video, but the song is just mediocre. What is awful and embarassing is the instrument demolition ending, which sends a simple message to the world, that U2 can be also brainless idiots.

Ditto, I agree. Tomb Raider tie-in's are just wrong! Sports U2 doesn't work for me either.

Me too. I actually like the "Get On Your Boots" video. In fact, it made me like the song a bit more than I did when it came out, specially because it sort of help me getting a proper meaning to me. And to me, today, "Get On Your Boots" is a feminist song. Yeah, a song about feminism. And a better feminism than, for instance, Beyonce's trashy low cost feminism.

Can't say the same about the cartoonish "Crazy Tonight" video: uninteresting and it reduces the song to something silly... Which the song already is because it has some of Bono's worst lyrical efforts. Same goes to the North American version of "Walk On" which stripps the song away of its deeper meaning and give it some random teenage-pleaser feeling.
But the worse is the North American video for "Stuck In A Moment" (specially when compared to the "van video" which, in my opinion, is one of the most touching videos U2 made): cheesy, empty, tacky, no taste at all.

For "The Miracle", U2 decided to make an uninteresting random band-video. It's uninteresting compared to "Vertigo"'s because at least "Vertigo"'s has some interesting graphics, it has the desert as the background (some sort of no-line-on-the-horizon-desert).

Hope the video they supposedly filmed in South America for "Every Breaking Wave" is way better and beautiful.

I think it is the total opposite. Song is good. Video is lame.

Yeah the video is entirely forgettable. On the other hand, the song is brilliant and youthful. Better than Boots by far, too awkward and out there from the pop scene to be a big hit like Beautiful Day and Vertigo sadly.

It just sucks that rock n' roll is just about dead, because this U2 album would be huge on the radio. Even if the The Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby was new and fresh today, no radio station would air them. The rock scene is long gone. The core audience is still out there, but radio has to please the biggest markets these days.

brilliant and youthful??? are we talkin´ about Miracle - the essence of dad rock with 70´s riffs ???

Dad rock is almost as stupid a phrase as "heritage act."

For fucks sake, they're all 50 years old, most of them are dads, they put Larry and his son on the cover, and most of their male audience are actually dads or old enough to be dads, or granddads, by this point.

So yea... Dad rock.

I motion we ban the term "Dad rock"!

It's one of the dumbest/lamest terms out there.

The whole notion of "Dad Rock" can be torn apart by this:

Kid Rock is a dad, so when he records an album, are we to understand that Kid Rock is performing Dad Rock?

Boom!
