U2's Thirteenth Album: Aimless Uncertainty?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Holy hell, people have been posting here for fourteen years...

Some even longer. Apparently there was some great server crash or reformat in 2000 that reset the join dates, which is why all the longest-term posters have the same registration date in 2000. I don't know when the original forum began but it existed in 1999.

Personally I can't believe I've been here over a decade now. And still just two albums in that time!

It was in its infancy during Popmart. I got involved in between Popmart and the start of the ATYCLB build up (this is, I think, my third screen name). I'd say the peak would have been more Elevation than Vertigo (?), and not sure about overall numbers, but there was a large 'changeover' around Bomb/Vertigo time - a lot of old regulars left, but a lot of what are now still regulars arrived around then - but there's been a steady drop off since. As mentioned, I'd agree it's partly U2 reasons, partly Internet reasons.

ck

I'd rather "er" on the side of optimism without being totally starry-eyed about it.

So i think that what CK :hi5: and others are thinking is possible. And I won't be that dissapointed if it doesn't happen that way. I have some (and struggling with) major art projects going on, and worrying about will i be able to see U2 & where etc
would divert too much attention and engery. I'd rather have them tour the USA later than earlier. Though i don't relish standing outside at MSG in the bleeping cold/snow to get a great GA spot :( either esp after this past extra crummy winter....... ah,well.

Where's laura croft when we need her.

better yet send a fierce posse of fangirls to rescue good U2.
tho, i supose some would rather have "evil" U2

I joined, when ATYCLB was released. I left for a considerable amount of time in disgust
over that "fake Edge" nonsense on here, the constant dredging up of rumors about Bono and U2, etc... (Does anybody remember MissU2? She sure did vanish.)

I joined during the Vertigo Tour. That was an awesome time.

It was, I still think it was one of there better tours. It does not get much love around here any longer.

I joined before ATYCLB hit. That was a great time as well. We could debate here and remain civilized. Amazing.

I remember the great general admission debate we had here. Everyone was very rational and logical. Whatever happened to U2LA? I disagreed with him on a few things but he was always very logical, rational and cordial. Not the condescending crap we get now.

I joined right around when Vertigo was first released to radio in September 2004, right at the beginning of that cycle(though I had occassionally lurked before that). I had previously been on the Poplemon forum - which itself was made up in large part by holdovers from the original u2.com zootopia(the turquoise-colored one, anyone remember that?) who had disliked the 'new' zootopia that was introduced in 2003 - and then I drifted here, where I've been ever since.

So, when did the blue crack start? The site's been around since the late 90s I guess, but it wasn't always blue, at the beginning it used that purple background. When did it change to the blue crack?

I've was an active member of U2|Wire in the mid 90s. Back when you drafted up responses like writing to a pen pal. You had to put some additional thought into your feedback.

Is it normal to wake up in an impact zone surrounded by a cloud of dust, thirsty, and craving a bag of chips?

We had a wine tasting event in my hot air balloon the other day. Ill admit it got a bit out of hand when I was sitting on the edge of the basket staring out at the sunset below. We got into trouble when the balloon drifted into a pretty mean cloud and we experienced turbulence, which shook the balloon enough to send me falling down to the earth below.

Luckily for me I landed in a pit of quicksand which not only broke my fall but saved my life. Now this might have been a bit unpleasant, see as I have quicksand in places one really doesn't need to have quicksand in, or even mention - you get the idea hopefully.

There were some pot farmers sitting around a camp fire near the quicksand pit who were high on their own yield, by their own devices, and they thought me landing there was just another hallucination.

It took quite a bit of convincing on my part to get them to pull me out of the quicksand pit. Even then, they weren't sure I was really real, and didn't believe I could have fell out of a balloon.

The old sports told some interesting stories - it was a very entertaining night even as I was sore from the fall and dirty from the mud bath. They say the quick sand has some medicinal powers, so does the other stuff.

While I agree that Interference used to be a much nicer place, whew there were some battles after 911.

I registered in 2001, and I'm now 32. I recently went back and viewed some of threads I posted in/started back in those days. It was a painful read, I don't recommend it.

My favorite thread was "why do girls only date assholes"? Apparently I was quite bitter towards the opposite sex at the time. I seem to remember a "dry spell" for awhile when I was between girlfriends, maybe I was being an emo wuss about it.

 Awesome.

I don't htink most of us want to read back the stuff we posted in the early days. I was a drooly teen back then, god that was bad. :uhoh:

Also, this has to be the best discussion we've had sofar in these album threads. :D

Yeah I joined around 2004 I think and the condescending crap was much less back then, I think. Or maybe I am just wistful about the past, dont know.

Really, when I think about the last 14 years, how I not been banned or even received a suspension at any point is pretty shocking.

It makes me a little sad that most everyone reports that Interference has declined over the past decade.

For all the "condescending crap" people complain about, I don't think it's that bad here. This is definitely by far my favorite among the forums I've posted on.
