Random Music Talk LXXXVII: Which one of you called my church?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Holy crap, you guys. Zola Jesus and a string quartet. So so good. The arrangements for the strings were just lovely and the musicians sounded so good. She's amazing and it was a great venue. Wonderful show, and I'm home by ten. :)

Well, San Francisco has vaulted into one of my favourite cities ever, and certainly near the top of North American cities I've been to. I just LOVE it here. Sad to be leaving on Monday.

What does this have to do with random music? I'm really not trying to be an ass. I know people say that all the time without meaning it but I'm genuinely curious why some of you treat this as a chat thread when it is "supposed" to be about random music. Maybe that's why newcomers to this forum don't like to post here about random music thoughts and would rather start their own thread. Just a thought... for posters like Lazarus who seem to be the forum's thread police.

It's just the way it has been for years now, man. Not much to explain. A lot of us who post in here are friends and have been shooting the shit with each other for a long time. It's only natural that we occasionally drift into conversation about things other than music.

You know, that's quite understandable. Then, certain posters should not be policing the forum saying something "belongs" in the random music thread and doesn't warrant a thread of its own. Let the actual forum moderator decide that. Of course, this is not a comment on all of you at all. I've only ever seen Lazarus do this.

That was really incredibly rude, LMS. I get where you're coming from, but man, BoMac is a nice guy and that was really unnecessary.

The title really needs a comma:

Random, Music Talk!

I understand your reaction, but I have to say that I see more of these posts in these threads (and this forum). Only, then it is a regular stating it to/about a not-so-regular in this thread/forum. But I guess it's then par for the course.

Wasn't trying to be rude to BoMac or single him out at all. I've often noticed that this thread is mostly a chat amongst known friends, which is fine... really. Just don't pretend that it is about random music then... and that all posts randomly discussing music must belong in this thread only.

I think more of the point was that the topic of conversation that you are referring to was something that didn't seem to warrant its own thread, especially since this thread (which VERY much delves into random topics of music-based conversation) turns into Random Clash Talk allllll the time.

You know what? You're right. Let's turn this shit around RIGHT NOW. Fat, drunk and sociable is no way to go through life.

Topic for consideration: The Beatles

Notes: I feel positively about the album Abbey Road and believe a discourse on this matter would benefit the forum at large. Please consider this proposal and forward a response to me at your earliest convenience.

Warmest regards,

LemonMelon

Just because this is bugging me, I went back through the last 3 pages of this thread (which would be the last 6 pages of the thread on regular view, I'm on 30PPP) and I'd say those pages are 80% music conversation, 20% random shit.

I'd hate to see how much of the U2 "news" threads contain actual news.

Body: I do not believe that further discussion on the album Abbey Road is necessary at this juncture. Please contact us about this topic again in about 3-5 years.

This is the album I listened to...LAST NIGHT:

220px-MGMT_Cover_Art.jpg

I am quite fond of the first half of this album. It does not end as strongly as it began, however, I believe that it was fairly solid throughout, just as its predecessor, Congratulations, was. I still think Oracular Spectacular may be one of the worst albums of all time, in regards to percentage of amazing songs to really not so spectacular songs is concerned.

I am very sad, however, to find out that my favorite song on the album, "Introspection" is a cover. I hope to find that the original version of the song is as good as MGMT's own version.

UPDATE: The original version of the song is exactly like MGMT's cover. I think I might spend more time with Faine Jade...whoever they are.

Body: Your decision is regrettable, but is nonetheless understood. I will cease any further inquiry on this matter for the suggested duration. If you wish to carry on discourse with me, I can be contacted in the Killers thread, where I will be found criticizing them ceaselessly for their creative bankruptcy.

Body: I regret to inform you that if further criticism of The Killer's and their alleged creative bankruptcy continues, I will be forced to send you a formal cease and desist letter. Please end this form of discourse immediately.

UPDATE to the UPDATE: I just listened to another song by Faine Jade. I will now be staying up until stupid o'clock in the morning, because I need to hear this whole album, STAT.

Re:re:re:re: The Beatles

Body: Further criticism of the alleged creative bankruptcy of the Killers is necessary in order to benefit the culture of U2 Interference. If you wish to forward a cease and desist letter to be reviewed by the Grand Council of Moderation, form AEB-45891 can be found in the office of Anu, to the left of a large stack of Arcade Fire hate mail. I hope that this clash of interests can be diffused with minimal litigation.

Sincerely,

LemonMelon

P.S. I fear that this personal matter may be deviating too far from the intended umbrella topic of "Random Music Talk." Please advise.

Re:re:re:re:re: The Beatles

Body: This public display is unbecoming of you. Contacting the Grand Council of Moderation will not be necessary. The only recourse is a flame war. I believe the standard rules of procedure will be adequate for the situation. I will be moving this conversation to a new topic in the appropriate thread in the near future.

With appreciation,

Bono_212

P.S. If this is not an example of Random Music Talk, I am uncertain of what the proper conversation messages would contain. I propose a meeting to come up with a clearer definition of Random Music, Talk, and Random Music Talk. Furthermore, I believe a form may be required to ensure that no deviations occur. Please advise.

Isn't it the moderator who should decide whether something warrants its own thread or not? Just because this particular thread turns into random Clash talk all the time doesn't mean somebody is not allowed to start a Clash thread!? :)

He should have said "you know there's a recent album you just bought thread." Because it's not a Clash thread, it's a "hey I just got this box set and I think it's good." Thread. Bump one of the old Clash threads if you want to talk about the band, or note that those are 90% mofo and me with various guest appearances, and just put the equivalent of a tweet (because that's all mt's post is) in there rather than spawn a thread that won't amount to much more than me and mofo calling each other names. "Did anyone else pick it up?" Is a yes or no question, sort of the opposite of discussion.
