Random Music Talk LIII: Even more fun than the last thread!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Shocked. SHOCKED I am at the Urban Dance Squad recommendation.

That actually is a really good album. Used to drive my roommate nuts with it in college.

Surprising choice, not? :D

Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden

Have you listened to Shearwater, Marty? If you like Talk Talk, I think you might enjoy them.

No, I haven't. Will check them out, then. :)
Colour Of Spring is my second favourite album, evah! I much prefer it to Spirit Of Eden (though that one is a good one too).

This whole discussion has me thinking, "Why don't I own more albums from the late 80's?"

I guess the 80's was the dark ages compared to now. If you wanted to hear an album you either had to go out and buy it or borrow it from a friend. I was in high school and had a very limited music budget for the most part. My friends and I would *gasp* share music by taping CDs, but I've long since trashed all of those home recordings.

HOME TAPING IS KILLING MUSIC!

And as I said earlier, anything before 1988 I bought on cassette, and a lot of those things I've never re-bought. I either wore the tapes out and threw them away or they're boxed up in my parents attic. Either way, they're not on my CD shelf or in my iTunes library. Most of what I did re-buy was U2, R.E.M., and The Cure.

Urban Dance Squad also reminds me that I left Big Audio Dynamite and Information Society off my list.

That first big audio dynamite album was good.

Talk Talk is amazing. Mark Hollis might be my favorite vocalist right now, the guy's voice is so fucking rich.

Laughing Stock > Spirit of Eden

Just to stir some shit up.

Cooking question:

I'm cooking macaroni. Everything has been good this year until the last few times. Now, for some reason, one out of every 20 or so noodles is inexplicably hard and difficult to eat, and it's ruining the meal. What am I doing wrong, and how do I correct it?

Use plenty of water. During cooking stir the pasta a few times. Pour some (olive) oil in the pan with the pasta.

Is it the delightfully orange (frightening and yet oh-so-delicious) Kraft? Or are you making it from scratch?

I don't want to make assumptions or generalizations about college students. :(

I've made many a box of mac N cheese and have never had that happen. Maybe you've got bad mac N cheese karma.

I used to make that stuff in a little hot plate cooker. Good christ, that stuff is the bomb. And it can only be Kraft - accept no substitutes. My mom sent me a care package of some generic stuff once, and it was vastly inferior. Oh, and the noodles shaped like cartoon characters? Also crap, even though it's still Kraft.

God damn, I wish I had some mac N cheese. Shoulda picked some up at the store with my OJ and chicken soup. I'm sick. Woe.

This whole discussion has me thinking, "I'm so old I saw 90% of the late 80s bands mentioned here when their first records came out." :|

I always cooked it without oil, but then again, I'm always constantly stirring it, drooling into the pot waiting too many agonizing seconds for the deliciousness to be in my mouth.

So yeah, I never had the sticking problem.

It's funny how I still immediately recognized the Kraft macaroni even though it's been almost 10 years. I ate that a lot when I lived in the US. I loved that shit. Of course I was 7 or so.

I feel you on the sick. I've been ill for three and half weeks with what I thought was a cold, and turned out to a respiratory problem. Add that to the mono and I've basically had three months of my junior year where I couldn't have fun or relax. What a year!

Thankfully, the weather has been inexplicably badass in central PA and I'm on the road to full health, so I should be good.

I'm going to make a 30 minute video asking for donations. I'm going to call myself Invisible Macaroni.

By supporting my cause, you can make the macaroni visible before me. Won't you please help today?
