The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

This is my really-trying-to-be-helpful advice for the day:

For all of you who say you are clueless about bootlegs .... for as much time as you spend listening to U2 and talking about bootlegs or whatnot, why not take a few minutes to figure it out!

It's really not hard - I would guess the only thing you need to find is the program to extract WinRAR files, as most bootlegs in mp3 format on U2start are uploaded that way (rather than the old-school WinZip).

It's been ages since I've gotten WinZip, and don't remember if it was free or not, but even if it costs money to download, it will open up a WORLD of U2 goodness for you, and is likely worth the price.

On U2start, you would find a show, click on "audio bootlegs," click on the link(s) to download (usually Megaupload or Mediafire - both safe sites, I've never had issues with either), it downloads in one or two parts. You use WinZip to "open" the files, and it loads the mp3 files right on computer, and voila - they are ready to play on your computer, or put on your iPod, or burn to CD.

:)

Thanks

I didn't know you had to download a separate program to convert the files. I thought maybe you could just download it and it would work.

Do they have separate songs as well as shows?

Yes. *will share it once it's downloaded and converted*

:D

Cool, thanks

Not usually - U2start will just have a complete show uploaded, not individual songs.

There might be sites that upload a show file by file, so you download an Mp3 at a time, but it's easier and faster to take your 30 mp3s from a concert, squish them together in WinRAR or WinZip, and then you just have one or two (usually two for a full show) to upload or download. (It's definitely faster for the uploader, and much fewer clicks for the downloader.)

If you're not that concerned about sound quality, then convert the YouTube file using whatever programs are online, like Tara's using, but it typically won't sound as good. :)

I thought that when you bought a computer with a Microsoft Office suite, you would automatically get WinZip, but my last computer didn't come with it, so maybe it's not as commonly used anymore. All I see online when downloading stuff is WinRAR.

*has that bootleg*

.....

I didn't realize that until you said that, Cori. :hyper: *runs off to find it*

ETA:
FUCK!

It's on my OTHER external harddrive, which is in Nebraska. FUCK! *goes to redownload*

.....

*really likes that show*

I never look at the length of time until it's been downloading for about 15 minutes or so - I swear it never picks up speed until it's all nice and warmed up.

Thanks that makes me feel a bit better. Will have a check in a while. :)

I do have a question. My computer will lock itself if I leave it to download overnight. Will it still download as long as its still connected to the internet. ( Have the ethernet plug in). Am totally new to this. :reject:

^ I hope that makes sense. Am kinda tired.

Do you mean lock as in still be on, but you'll have to enter your password again later? Yeah, it should keep running just fine.

Is it Athens audio? That shouldn't take too long, but it depends on how many seeders there are. If it's video, and there aren't a lot of seeders .... it could take multiple days!

Yeah that is what I meant. Thanks for the help. :hi5:

 Its video. I am doomed to wait days. :scream:

/has no patience.

I can't remember if I already downloaded Athens video!

I probably did - I have way too many 360 DVDs :reject:

(Edit: I looked. Uploaded in May - I'm sure I have it somewhere.)

I downloaded the Moscow multicam this weekend, even though it's an HD file and utterly useless to me. I figured I'd jumped on it early enough that I could get great upload speed and get my ratio back up. It only went up a little. :grumpy: (But was happy to see in the comments that they were doing a DVD version, too! yay!)

 I guess it gets addictive. Oh, U2 what have you done to us. :shifty::wink:

Oooh Moscow.

ETA: My net connection went down just now and I was all :panic:

I don't download a ton of bootlegs (I'm weird and only want the shows I've actually attended), but I do have vague plans of sometime learning how to do all that WinRAR/whatever stuff.

I just have Montreal 1 & 2 audio to download, and also to find the Seattle DVD that Chris & Dan made. I'm so lazy these days, and am in no huge rush that it will probably be months before I ever bother to do that. :lmao:

I was going to get that Moscow one but now you have me curious, what do you mean it's HD and not DVD? What's the difference. I thought you could burn anything to dvd, and HD was just that it was recorded in high definition.

Montreal 1 and 2. Do it on a rainy day when your chilling in your PJ's.

I.e.: today?! It's been a horrible day here - rain and wind and dreariness. I have to make a stop at the liquor store on my way home from work, but basically I plan on getting into my PJ's as soon as I'm home, and curling up on the couch to watch Gilmore Girls all night. :)

I'll probably save it for a weekend or something, when I don't have much going on and will have the patience to figure it out. I get so easily frustrated with technological things that I find it best to give myself lots of time when attempting to understand any of that.

Okay, false alarm. I used Vuze to convert Manray and I can watch now. All is well in the world. Economy is booming. Hunger and war eradicated. Rejoice.

Is this a new non-tour record for threads?

So, anyone else got Zoo Bono they want to share?

I suppose I could share him, a little. :hmm:
