not bad at all! haha. both the onion and the follow up, HTDAAB

Im trying not to get excited for the show. everytime I do, my show gets cancelled.

Im going in 3 weeks on the 29th...

glad to see Tierney isnt making a meal out of his injuries. what a difference between him and Mendoza's tweet (nausea pills and pain killers weeks after a concussion??). I understand head injuries and all, but give me a break...

I saw the matinee show yesterday and thought the show was fun, exciting, and without any stop or delay. Peter Parker was played by an understudy who had a more traditional voice than Carney. Bono and the Edge were in the audience enjoying the show and furiously taking notes. Julie Taymor walked around the house a few times as well. Apparently Bono saw the show in its entirety for the first time on Tuesday night and the Boys gave notes and worked on the production until 2AM. I went back at the end of the evening performance to try to meet Bono and saw both him AND Steve Lillywhite emerge from the theater. Not sure how Steve is involved but I didn't get a chance to chat thanks to an obnoxious TMZ reporter... Bono's family was in attendance as well.

The show isn't 100% "tight" yet, but there's enough material and talent involved to make it a success. According to the crew, scenes in the show are being changed frequently (especially Act 2... which isn't as bad as people make it out to be). Music is being added and rewritten, scenes have been cut, etc. Act 1 is more of the Spiderman story and Act 2 is more of the visual spectacle, in my opinion. The staging for the more poignant numbers in Act 2 are stunning. The shows big number, Boy Falls from the Sky, isn't big enough on stage though. In my opinion, much more could be done with that song as its definitely the musical highlight of the show.

Actually, I was just going to post about that. Lillywhite tweeted yesterday that he was going to see the show, then he tweeted from the theatre but before the show started that he had great seats. I was waiting to hear what he thought of it after, but he hasn't tweeted since. I kind of assumed that his impression must not have been great. You know, the old "if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

Bono was smiling and clapping and was really enjoying the acrobatics, I know that! Lots of note taking and according to crew he's been very involved in changing the production. Like I said, he stayed until 2AM on Tuesday night!!

Something I'm curious about, and maybe one of you more experienced theatre-goers can enlighten me - a lot of the general consensus seems to be that the show has potential, but that the book needs anywhere from minor tweaking to a complete rework of the entire second act. The previews started in early December (or was it late November?) and the show opens in a month. From what I've gathered, they've done very little or no work on the book so far. Granted, there have been a lot of technical issues and the injuries to deal with, and from what I've read, the show is technically much more smooth now. But with so little time remaining in the previews, at what point will they start working on the book? When will it be too late to make changes?

i don't know about the timescales VP, but, as i understand it, any changes to the book/script could have a pretty major impact, with new lines to be learned, direction, musical adjustments, technical/special effects changes, and related safety issues, so the sooner any changes are made to it the better... who knows what's going on in the background though...

i would love to know what B-man was writing down while watching the show!

Just got this from @U2:

Yes, There Will Be a Spider-Man CD (But Will It Have U2?)

Creative Goods, the company that runs the official Spider-Man: Turn
Off the Dark online store, says there will be a soundtrack CD released
soon ... but we don't know if U2 (or just Bono & Edge) will be on it
in any capacity aside from being the songwriters.

Ben Z., an @U2 reader, contacted the site recently to ask if and when
a Spider-Man soundtrack would be available. On Tuesday, Creative Goods
sent him this reply:

We anticipate the Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark CD to be released in
the next few months. Please check back.

It's quite possible (maybe likely) that the CD will not have U2 or
Bono & Edge, but instead will be the cast performing the songs that
Bono and Edge wrote for the production. Your guess is as good as ours.
Regardless, fans who want to hear the songs no matter who performs
them should be able to within a few months.

Ha, how timely!

RIALTO CHATTER: Bono Now 'Hands-On' in SPIDER-MAN Rehearsals and More 2011/01/06

BroadwayWorld.com has confirmed that he is working with the cast and creative team on the show (as would be expected) and is getting 'hands-on' this week along with The Edge at all vocal rehearsals, orchestra work and other details of the production as he's made his commitment to the show well known to those at the Foxwoods Theatre.

There's no word yet on specific changes that might now be coming to the production now that it's composer and lyricist are on site, but we're told that work continues primarily this week on the show's new finale, work on the geek's bedroom scene and on tightening parts of the show's second act, with other work to come next. The show is in heavy rehearsal today throughout the Foxwoods Theatre and Studios.

Fuck. Yes.

I'm going to be bumping the fuck out of this soundtrack on all my stereos. Car, computer speakers, boom boxes, headphones, two tin cans connecting by string, whatever.

And chances are, unless Danger Mouse suddenly turns into Speedy Gonzales, we'll be getting this soundtrack before we get an actual U2 album.

Angst won't do him any good now, VP - the album's more or less done! He can't go back on his "album before US leg" comments now because he has some new angst to write about!

Despite my mostly-disinterest in the musical, I'd buy the cast recording with or without U2 (HAR HAR HAR) anyway. Completist, etc etc.

Just look at it this way. Chances are, in 2011, we'll be getting:
-The Spider-Man soundtrack (maaaaaaaybe with Bono and Edge on BFFTS)
-The Danger Mouse album
-The Achtung Baby remaster
-Some early buzz on the "club album" (title/cover/lead single?)

:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

If Cee-Lo is to be believed, DM is "wrapping up the U2 project."

Which doesn't mean that Spidey won't come out first (it said "next few months"), but if it's before the U2 album, the U2 album might not be far behind!

Which equals yay.

Right, I just wanted to have a reason to make the Danger Mouse/Speedy Gonzales joke.

Because, actually, if it's true that Bono and Edge are in New York as we speak still working on changes to the music, it would be hard to believe that they're very close to releasing an official soundtrack to the musical. Unless they want to release recordings that were made before this latest round of Bono-tweaking.

I can't really see the cast recording process being a long one, though. Tweak/rewrite the music over the next few weeks, and then recording itself shouldn't take any longer than a few weeks or a month, should it? This isn't a U2 album we're talking about, the songs are in place, all the cast has to do is go in and sing them while the band does the music.

Yeah, I have no idea how long that would take.

If they need me to fly in to the Big Apple for some extra "hands on" work with Jennifer Damiano, I'm free.

I found my self thinking about Spiderman again this morning. I am so glad that Bono and the Edge are there now to tweak and change and give music notes to the cast and musicians. I have always adored musical theatre but I seem to have a personal investment in this one because of their involvement. I hope it works and is not only a financial success but a critical one as well.

One of the things that I keep reading about with this show is that is has a lack of intimacy. There are so many things going on, the concentration is on effects and flash and not on character development and relationships. I was thinking what this show needs is a song like “Some times you can’t make it on your own.” Something to help personally identify Peter with his family ( uncle Ben??) and give the viewers a reason why he is choosing to become a super hero…..people are not identifying with the flying mythological spider woman.

On another note, I wonder if Lillywhite will be producing the Broadway Cast recording or if he was just there to give feedback.

That sounds like a good idea, though there's no way B's gonna be able to give a song for Spider-Man the same kind emotional authenticity of "Sometimes..."

In other Spider-Man news, Chris Tierney is going to be in the audience tonight.

A friend of mine invited me to a local small theater production to see some guy's interpretation of what a Spiderman musical would/should be like. I'm expecting it to be pretty zany.

And it's called Spidermann.

I think I have to go.

YES. DO IT. :hyper::hyper::hyper:
(Oh, and take video for us poor saps who can't be there!)

Maybe it's not a musical - that was a guess, because he referenced the Broadway show in the description (see this before the behemoth opens, or something like that).

But no, I'm not taping anything. Sorry. ;)
