All complaints about the setlist HERE

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
1) Too much jukebox-versions of the big hits in the setlist. I'm not an anti-hits fan in setlists. But I'm against it when: the versions of those hits are a shadow of what they were; the position in the setlist is obviously "forced" and/or out of place; when it's pure crowdpleasing with no substance at all in the spectacle (they're there in the setlist "just because").

2) U2 not having had the balls at least to try to play live and to try to find a place in the setlist for NLOTH songs like "Cedars Of Lebanon", "White As Snow" or "Being Born" (I don't care for "Stand Up Comedy" - that's b-side-quality material for me). But, bah... «who cares? the masses (which are the majority of the audiences) are gonna eat very well "With Or Without You" [in its worse versions ever] no matter if it's the show opener or if we play it after "Vertigo"», isn't it?

3) Getting rid of some of the already few NLOTH songs they were playing.

4) I still find the "Crazy Tonight" remix one of the most gaudy and tasteless moments ever in U2's live career. I'd even prefer to see them playing "Stand Up Comedy" instead of "that".

5) The fluence/cadence between many songs is pretty bad and poorly-thought. I will never understand why "The Unforgettable Fire" is not played right before the political-bloc and it has "City Of Blinding Lights" and "Vertigo" in the middle. I don't understand as well WTF is "Miss Sarajevo" doing after "In A Little While" (which I think it definitely doesn't fit at all with the astronauts link).

6) Static setlists were necessary in the times when all this tecnology-overload in a rock show was something new and hard/"dangerous" to deal with. These days U2 should already have more experience with it and learnt and technological complex shows and setlists with subtle variations are not incompatible.

:madwife: To me, and now I've only watched the Rose Bowl Video (Plus I haven't been to every single show on the whole tour..so unlike most of you people , I can't really complain about the setlist)

But anyway...to Me, Crazy Tonight is the highlight of the show. I'm sure HMTMKMKM would be right up there also.

as much as i loathe stand up comedy, i agree with this. crazy is downright embarrassing, especially coming from 50 year old men, that have written some of the greatest rock songs ever.

I disagree. It actually makes me laugh because it reminds me of the comedic arrogance of the Zoo TV tour.Though I wish they would play a full version of Discotheque rather than Bono just adding lyrics to the end of Crazy Tonight.

I sat by silently while there were blasphemous things being said about the Crazy Tonight remix, but I can sit idly by no more.

You want them to play Grace?????

Pistols at dawn, sir.

We're spoiled as U2 fans that have seen the band multiple times. As such, we all want to hear something different. For myself, I would love to hear "Please", "Exit", "Acrobat", "God Part II", and "Drowning Man", but the likelihood of these songs being played are very low. And there's a very good reason.

For likely the majority of fans in the audience, this might be their 1st U2 show or their first show in several years or more. U2 is trying to ensure that people get to hear the "hits" and have a great first experience.

I do agree that they need to also find some balance with appealing to the fans that have seen them multiple times, but I can also understand why they continue to play the same setlist over and over again. It doesn't help that they're only playing 1 or 2 shows tops in each city (Dublin being the exception), which makes it difficult for them to have huge variations in their shows.

For the hits, buy a greatest hits (U2 has 3 to choose from), turn on the radio or buy a DVD (One, WOWY, BD and Streets and ISHFWILF are in all of them since these songs came out).

Again, I don't say «erase all the classics from the setlist», but there's a point of artistic sensibility for a band with such a huge and versatile catalogue to choose from when they insist on uninspired crowdpleasing versions of the same radiophonic hits.

Whats wrong with Grace.I mean to each his own but they have never performed Grace and I would much rather see it performed than In A Little While,Sunday Bloody Sunday,Elevation,Until The End of The World,Still Havent Found, I mean ENOUGH IS ENOUGH Already!

I think this tour has the most obvious of themes since ZooTV, I'm actually pretty suprised by how many don't get it.

It's all about space, time, location, travel and it's throughout the entire show.

You travel from Africa to Iran, earth to space to heaven.

What time is it? Even the bridges make wandering clock hands from a plan view.

:adam: It's a musical journey. Space, time, travel, places, things, stuff. You know. Like, vastness and shit.

The next tour's theme should be "stuff" so we don't have to argue about what it is. It would also be impossible to screw up the light show or song choices.

The set is a slog right now, but I find it hard to bitch when both HMTMKMKM and Ultraviolet are being played, back-to-back. I never thought I'd see the day. I still think the rest of the setlist was constructed with a dart board.

Really that Bad?LOL Funny.Out of all U2's songs Grace puts me to sleep the most but I think it's because it's simple and peaceful and I like it.

I can't say that I like it, but I do like the stillness and peacefulness of it. (I don't care for the lyrics or the vocal, but like the music.)

But in concert? Oy.

I think I hate Grace so much because I've always felt Walk On should have been the album closer.

Or maybe because it's U2 tuning up in another room while Bono recites lyrics he scribbled out on a cocktail napkin the night before he sang In A Little While.
