Speaking of which, I heard a new Black Angels song on the radio the other day, and liked it quite a bit.

I was recommended them by a friend. What kind of music is it? He was pretty useless in filling me in on the subject

Hey, Scums, was Macca that dull? At the risk of knowing Laz's opinion as well, I'm curious to know what you thought of his gig.

Ah, I've been discussing it over in the Shuttlecock thread. It was actually phenomenal, LeMeL. Far better than I had expected. GAF found a setlist of the show for me:

Paul McCartney Concert Setlist at Rio Tinto Stadium, Salt Lake City on July 13, 2010 | setlist.fm

Here's what I wrote elsewhere:

I was worried that it would be one of those shows where you're happy to be able to say you've seen the person, but they really didn't sound that great. I was completely wrong, he sounded phenomenal, actually played instruments himself for every song, and danced around and was far more lively than I ever would have imagined someone his age being. It was extremely entertaining, and sounded great as well. I've Just Seen A Face was a big highlight for me, as it was one of my favorites when I was younger. I never would have guessed in advance that he'd play it.

That set is fuckmazing, although the complete lack of the self-titled is disappointing. I figured Maybe I'm Amazed would be the One of his solo catalog.

In any case, $60 is the price for bottom-tier tickets, so it's just not happening right now. I'm seeing the first day of Pitchfork and Tom Petty/Drive-By Truckers in the next three days, so yeah, that'll be enough for a while.

Speaking of Pitchfork day 1, how fucking awesome is Modest Mouse? Moon And Antarctica is an experience unlike anything else, misanthropic and bitter as hell, but oddly comforting, and impossible to look away from. I used to think it dropped off after the first four or five tracks, but if you really let yourself get lost in it, you don't even notice. The Stars Are Projectors may be my new favorite.

I've only heard Lonesome and Good News once each, so I'll run through those a couple more times before Friday. They're both so dense (particularly the former) that it's difficult to pinpoint what I think of either, but I enjoy them both.

Lonesome Crowded West is my favorite Modest Mouse album, and I've only heard them play one track from it in the two times I've seen them (one of those times was last week). The show last week had 40,000 people show up, apparently Utahns only like concerts if they're free.

I wasn't getting all wound up about it, just pointing it out. As I said, there wasn't a way to say it without sounding like a jerk. But now that we have that out of the way, isn't Random usually where people talk about actually cool music?

Should we start a thread where we name a band or artist, then you let us know if they are cool or not, so we're aware of where we're allowed to discuss them?

It would really help streamline things.

But the band index will be so painfully uncool when it's eventually rebuilt.
