I ordered with LN too, and that's what I thought. Look at me now, though.

I don't know how much the single DVD costs here, I don't think it's in stores yet, but I haven't looked. Must... resist....

I'm going to watch this dvd over and over till I go to bed.
Then I might take it to bed with me. And have sex with it. Maybe. I dunno. It's possible.

TMI?

 The logistics are rather mind-boggling, but I'll leave that up to you...

I think dansmee said he has it? Not sure if he's from Aus or NZ, but I would think if one would have it, the other would?

Yeah, things like that are best left to a girl and her dvd, I suppose.

For one who generally prefers bootleg dvds to official, I'm seriously impressed.

Ah right, yeah, it usually works out that way.

:giggle:

I've not seen many bootleg DVDs, I think they were mostly '80s ones, so the quality was a bit ordinary. But it's good to know they've given Mr Hamilton the flick and this new director sounds like he knows what he's doing.

I'm trying not to hope for a Lovetown DVD with the R&H re-master... Hawkmoon and God Part II live...

(I haven't heard any talk of R&H being re-mastered, but they've gone this far, they must be doing the whole lot, right?)

I'm sure that R&H will be remastered at some point. Although I do recall hearing that U2 don't own the rights to the film? Not sure where I heard it, or if that's accurate, so I could be wrong.

For almost every official dvd release, I can point to at least one bootleg that I prefer. I really only got into hardcore dvd downloading early this year. At this point, I have about 60 dvds, of which probably 20 are video or tv appearance collections, the rest are shows. I'm sure I'm missing out on some essential ones, though. I keep thinking that I should send my list to Axver, and he can recommend some to me. I've noticed so far that the ones I have most of are Popmart (availability, I think - an incredible number of those shows were proshot), and Elevation - that tour was great for setlist variation. There are a bunch of really good early appearances out there, too - 80 - 83. I enjoy those ones a lot.

Last rumour I heard was AB remaster in Sept - but a Lovetown dvd would be :combust: I've heard the recording of the NYE 1989 Dublin show...

Sorry I disappeared. Got distracted. :shifty:

VP - I totally agree - this is probably one of my favourite DVD's too. :combust: I mean - holy shit are the visuals ever amazing. I might have cried once or twice during certain songs. :giggle: It was so cool seeing the show from different angles, as I really didn't ever watch a lot of tour clips, so I was super unspoiled about it all. I just wish there had been more shots of the claw in all its glory, because that was a thing of beauty.

Guh. Must watch again!

I stopped the DVD right as Unknown Caller was starting. I'll finish watching tonight. Don't hate me, but I'm not a fan of the live version of CT. :reject: Now, I haven't seen any video or audio of it in months, so I might change my mind, but meh. Did not like. I much preferred the studio version of it. Maybe seeing it on my TV and from a different angle will change my mind... :)

I'm not going to hate you for that... *L* I remember you saying that before, actually, but I'd forget my own head if it wasn't screwed on. :der:

I'm kinda the opposite, I was a bit lukewarm about studio Crazy to start with, but I obviously loved the live version, and now I find it harder to listen to the studio one... :reject:

And I'm right in the middle. I thought the album version was pretty boring and LOVED the live one. But on DVD it just doesn't do the live experience justice. But the live experience did make me enjoy the studio version a bit more.

I have the original You Tube footage burned on to a dvd, and I've watched that 4 or 5 times since the airing. I knew they'd clean it up and put in a bunch of new angles, but this has far surpassed my expectations. I just finished watching Vertigo, with the rapid Hamish-style cuts, and I even enjoyed that. For this one song, they make sense, and they're not overused on the rest of the dvd.

Also, Bono's vocals were a little rough on the raw footage. Someone (Gabe, I think) posted and explained that what we were hearing on You Tube was the sound over the stadium monitors, distortion and all, but that with the dvd footage they would use the sound board sound, and it would 1) be a more accurate reflection of the way he/they sounded that night, and that 2) it would just plain sound better. He was right, B is amazing vocally in this. For all those people who are all "he sounds old, he can barely sing, blah, blah, blah"....SUCK IT, HE SOUNDS AMAZING.

Having watched the DVD now, I'm still of the same opinion. The chorus is absolutely amazing live, and it's fun to see them all walking around the stage, but I prefer the tempo of the album version.

And may I say that Bono's voice sounds incredible?! Holy shit. I was so impressed. Hell, they ALL sounded phenomenal!

ETA - I didn't see your post before mine posted, VP! I agree - SO fantastic!!!

That would suck if they didn't have rights to the film... but we've already got that on DVD at least.

Yeah, the DVD boots I have seen are all Axver's. *L* I think the first night of Popmart was one of them... There was a pretty amusing UF show, I think... and a couple of early European festivals too. Bono did some crowd-surfing in one of them, came back out looking rather mangled, found out his mic didn't work, and promptly stole Edge's.... the look on Edge's face could have given Larry's Deathglare a run for its money.

I still don't have the Elevation DVD, although I have the video tape. Every time I see the DVD in a shop here, it's upwards of $50... Sorry, I'm not going to pay that for a ten-year-old DVD. Or nine or however long it's been.

All those Dublin shows at the end of Lovetown are incredible... The One Tree Hill from... I think it's the Dec 26 show is unbelievable. :faint:

I haven't gotten to Crazy yet on the dvd, but I agree that the live experience would be awfully hard to capture on film - it was so...primal and almost cathartic, live.

I keep watching this though and thinking that casual fans - hell, even people who have only heard their hits - should absolutely love this.

eta - CT now. :hyper:

Heheh, it's all good... just goes to show we're all different. :)

I can imagine seeing it on the DVD won't be the same as being there. I'm just remembering the first time I ever saw a video of a show/tour that I'd actually attended, I thought there was something wrong with the sound cos it was quieter/less awesome than the show had been. :reject:

Absolutely, yes... at the second Dublin show, I tried to video the latter part of Crazy but I couldn't stay still... *L* I didn't bother at the next one cos I just wanted to jump around like a mad thing. And this is someone who doesn't go to clubs and never dances...

Huh, I'm not sure I've seen that early crowd surfing one you're talking about. Unless it was Devore? That was nuts - he climbed to the very top of the staging, probably about 20 stories up. :yikes: That was War era, I think.

That's crazy about the Elevation price. You should just download it.

long time no chat! How ya been?

Not too shabby... just finished a mad two weeks at work, now looking forward to a very boring few weeks before it goes mad again. *L* Wishing I could pay my car off faster so I can start saving for travel... everyone I know seems to be on hols at the moment so I'm getting itchy feet again.

Hi Ali! Nice to be on at the same time as you for a change. :)

Likewise! Have you got any more runs coming up? I haven't been able to read back on all the posts lately, everyone's been posting like mad!

They could leave out all three and one of the NA gigs I'm at next year and I'd be perfectly happy. *climbs in box with VP*

I know what you mean... It's pretty significant they stopped playing Pride, but I'm not sure how much further they'll be willing to push things, leaving out the old hits that everyone and their dog knows.

I love each of these live, but sometimes I think it's a bit redundant to have Elevation, Vertigo and Boots all in the same show... And I'd love for them to give Drowning Man a chance.

</gripe> :reject:

I don't think it was that one... I can't remember if it was October or (pre?) War era. I'll have to ask Ax, I'm always forgetting things like this.

... Why didn't I ever think of that? I've never downloaded a whole DVD before. :hmm:
