Didn't see a thread and I was surprised, but I thought he had a chance to win the competition with that song and he sort of butchered it and didn't put the "heart" or "passion" into it at certain parts, we'll see tonight!

Honestly dont think U2 fans will vote for that. That was absolutely dreadful.

Agree, they were setting up Lee last week I thought with some good songs and he had the chance with BDAY bc it's such a great song, but people could vote against it bc they don't want to hear it ever again!

Would have never ever voted for that!!! It was awful...no passion and no emotion. I am dreading hearing it on the radio should he win. Shall we start a petition to all the radio stations???

After watching others try to tackle this song, it's just makes it obvious that when Bono sings he gives us 110%...his whole soul is poured out .

The passion cannot be captured by anyone else. IMO

So true! I haven't watched AI at all this season, but I turned it on last night only to see BD, and after that performance all I could think about was how amazing Bono is.

I think we all might take it for granted sometimes, but seriously, seeing someone who clearly is a talented vocalist try to tackle that song and completely ruin it shows you how incredible Bono really is. And its not about Bono's voice, there are certianly more talented vocalists, its his heart and soul. He wears his heart on his sleeve when he performs, and that is what makes his live performances so incredible. It made me choke up a bit watching that guy struggle through BD, because I was just so thankful for Bono, and so grateful that he should be ok in a few months time.:heart:

I just happen to put the show on right before he sang the song. I though, oh, they wrote a song for him called Beautiful Day. Then he started to sing, I wish it had been another song written called Beautiful Day, it was awful.
A guy I work with hates U2, and even he said the dude butchered that song.

As much flack as U2 and Bono are taking these days, sooner or later, with enough examples like Lee's, people are going to star to remember -again - that no one other than U2 can actually perform or make songs like this.

That was terrible. I don't like Nilsen's version either. He has covered a lot of U2 songs, and I actually do not enjoy him at all. His voice is boring and painful to listen to. He, and some other guys, covered WOWY, and it was . But teenagers said it was MUCH better than the original. Oh man....

Wow, this was absolutely awful. No offense, he's probably a decent guy, but it's people like him that make me hate today's music. No passion, no originality, it's all about hitting notes correctly. It's obvious looking at the performance that he doesn't care about what the song's about or about doing something special. He just stands there, tries to hit the notes he's supposed to hit and calls it a performance. Sure, he sings quite well in terms of technique but it's not enough.

omg, he won AI that means this BD version will be a single release :(

:crack:
