Bono will return to Ireland over the next few days to recuperate after his shock emergency back surgery.
The upcoming dates on U2's 360 Tour have been shelved after Bono's back was injured while the band was rehearsing in Germany.
Sources are remaining tight-lipped about the type of surgery and a statement is expected from the band over the next few days.
U2.com is telling fans only that Bono was "admitted to a specialist neuro surgery unit in a Munich hospital, and is under the care of neurosurgeon Prof. Dr. Jorg Tonn and Dr Muller Wohlfahrt."
"Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home to recuperate."
The shock surgery came just days after Bono celebrated his 50th birthday.
U2 manager Paul McGuinness said the surgery had been "very disruptive" for the U2 tour crew.
"We have over 400 people converging on Salt Lake City and some of those have been turned around and told to stay at home until we make our new plan,” he said.
U2 were just about to start the second leg of their 360 Tour with a concert in Utah on June 3.
Fans are being advised to monitor the U2.com website.

The "shock" treatment means that it was a shock to people that he had to undergo surgery, or thats how i read it anyway.

Heh. That comes across like annoyance. "Jeez, what a bother."

Of course it's disruptive, but to call out that part of what Paul McG said is kind of weird.

Just wanted to update you all on the situation in Salt Lake. I live down the street, and as of yesterday (Sunday), there were still about 50-60 U2 trucks in the parking lot across the street from Rice Eccles, with several of the claw ramps still visible. Not sure what means in terms of the info that the claw had been sent to Minneapolis. I'm just sayin...

Gonna swing by today and see how it looks...

To be fair, u2.com was on the ball with the initial announcement - I would expect that they'll continue to actually do their job timely in this situation.

I forgot, did U2.com state the day of the surgery? Or did they just say today or yesterday? For all we know, they could have been a day late on this news.

Maybe there is no announcement as they don't yet have an answer. It is possible that they don't want to make a rash decision and are waiting for the facts from the doctors and such?

I know, crazy idea... right?

I said the same sentiment earlier today. My comment was directed towards the knee-jerk LOLU2.COM reactions.

They don't need to make a rash decision but it is only less than two weeks away for those of us who were going to some of those first shows so they have to say something soon...I think by tomorrow or Wednesday at the latest.

Chicago and Miami shows are still on, according to Sun Life Stadium & Soldier Field communication directors -- but, nothing from Live Nation. So the venues either haven't recieved anything...wow, McG or LN have been quiet. Anyone knows if the German newspaper (that reported that Bono had an herniatic disk) is a reliable source, or it's just recycling the story?

I was there, it was HYSTERICAL! Especially when he just popped back up like nothing happened! Tehe... :D

Ah...that was good Bono times!

We've already wondered if he did some similar stunt and that's what happened to his back?!
He seems to do that a lot.

Anyway, not to change the subject of falling off-stage...but here's my frustration at this point....

It's 12:40pm here in LA, which makes it like 8:40 pm-ish in Ireland, business day is over and we still know nothing.

Anaheim is only 3 days after SLC.

On Friday Paul McG said Bono had surgery.

So...

1. Would it be asking too much for McG to have said "And he's doing fine" ???

2. Anaheim is 2 weeks from today, and only 3 days after SLC. Would it kill them to at least tell us that Anaheim is postponed? I know Denver and Oakland are after, but maybe that extra week would help him recover! But really? There's no way Anaheim is still on, so can't they just admit at least that?

3. Basically I wish they'd post on U2.com and say "Bono is alive/fine/well/recovering...we don't know how long it will take....oh and Anaheim is def postponed, details to come on the rest of the US leg."

Is it me? Would popping that up on U2.com really be so hard? Just so we all have peace of mind about Bono's health, and know about Anaheim.

Just a thought.

(PS I think they could go ahead and announce Anaheim cuz there is a larger space between Anaheim and the next show than there is between Anaheim and SLC.)

:waiting:

Its definitely not just you - I've been saying much the same all day! Problem is it is a public holiday here today, and apart from going on a few miles bike ride, its been hard not to keep refreshing U2 pages for news. I think it is not too much to ask to get something, anything, from someone on U2.com regarding Bono and his back.
