You've Never Heard U2's 'The Joshua Tree'?

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I heard the difference through my car audio system and do not have a Bose car audio system.
Using my headphones and other devices, I did hear more details.

I mean, I thought I was noticing the difference with my simply Sony headphones, but apparently not.

I've never had Sony headphones so I can't judge those. If you've decent ears and can truly listen to music, you'll know the difference even on a shitty sound system. :)

There's listening and listening...

she's totally right about Red Hill Mining Town and In God's Country sounding like the same song.

a lot of U2's songs sound exactly like each other. for example, these pairings:

All I Want Is You/Mofo
No Line On The Horizon/MLK
The Fly/Heartland

there's many more...

 It annoys me when people say all U2's music sounds the same though.

I have no problem with people saying they just don't like the band but when people justify it by saying all their music sounds the same they obviously have no idea.

That's why U2 have so many fans that love certain albums and eras and absolutely hate others. How could you compare Zooropa and SYCMIOYO, Discoteque and NLOTH, Zoo Station and October??

For the record, I was, in a roundabout way, giving LemonMelon shit, and gently ribbing Gabe. Something's wrong with my sarcasm meter lately.

Word. I get this idiocy all the time. Often they're the same people who don't see the huge debt their favorites owe to U2.

Nah, I got it ;)

On that note tho I never meant to say (but I guess I sortof implied that with the term 'higher end' ) that you had to spend loads of dough to notice the differences...but if someone were to say to me that they couldn't hear any differences, my first suggestion would be to get something decent/better? to listen thru, as not all speakers/earphones are created equal

Well, you can't please everyone, and you shouldn't even try.

One of my friends hates U2, but loves Depeche Mode. Go figure. I thought if you were a fan of one, you'd be a fan of the other...

I also never understand when some people like Coldplay and then say that U2 totally sucks.

One Tree Hill's performance is what takes it to the next level, but it always surprises me that it works as well as it does. The lyrics are pompous and overblown, repeatedly taking the scenic route to say something that could cut deeper when spoken frankly. Also, the song is melodically dull, running through the same two chord progressions over and over. Then they shine the fuck out of it with unnecessary, slightly dated electronic accoutrements.

Bono though, damn. He sells every word he spouts, flowery nonsense or otherwise, and the song builds in intensity, almost literally climaxing during the outro. And, as much as the studio production leaves me cold, it's a different beast live. Those Lovetown performances are about the closest Edge ever came to catching fire, and a lot of the polish is scraped off.

So, I guess I do sort of love the song, there are a number of great attributes here, but it's an example of U2 at their most self-important, trying their best to pay tribute to a fallen friend, but going WAY over the top to do so. It used to be one of my favorites, but it hasn't aged too well for me.

You just proved my point.
i just had a similar conversation offline (the person i talked to wishes to remain anonymous though) and i said the same kind of thing. while i certainly don't hate one tree hill, i don't think it's the most awesomest song ever or anything. i do think it's a great song though, it's just not the best on the album.

you guys suck

does it make you feel better that i think it's the second best on the album?
