The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Heh heh heh.... VB Vintage?

I can't imagine the vintage tastes any different to the original, much in the same way that there's no discernible difference between Carlton Draught, VB, Foster's, Melbourne Bitter and West End Draught.

I, uh, only know that they taste the same from... word of mouth, or something.

This is fantastic news...my favourite band at my favourite festival!

I have dreamed of seeing U2 at Glasto for many years..it will be incredible. I don't understand the views of some people here. Festival crowds are very open minded and are of a wide age range. The festival forums today are full of positive comments from people.

I've got my ticket and can't wait..anyone else going?

Feck feck feck! This is the best bad news I've ever heard.

I've been to Glasto eight (or nine, it's hard to remember) times. I've have been to the Pyramid Stage watching headliners like Radiohead, Coldplay, Paul McCartney, The Killers, The White Stripes, and God knows who else, and usually thinking about just how much U2 would demolish the place.

And then they go and announce this for one of the two years when I've not got a ticket! (And cos I was hoping to hit the States again next year.)

The atmosphere by the Pyramid Stage for the headliner at Glasto is beautifully, almost indescribably, electric. It's a genuinely magical experience, there really is something special in the air there. And it's just a few days after the summer solstice, and just a few miles down the road from Stonehenge.

U2 are going to feed off that vibe and cause ructions in that field. The atmosphere is going to be far and away better than the atmosphere at some regular U2 gigs.

Gotta gotta gotta be there!

Wow have people checked out the guardian article? the comments at the bottom are pretty negative towards the band,

U2 to headline Glastonbury 2010 | Music | guardian.co.uk

Fuck, I forgot everyone who goes to Glasto posts comments on the Guardian site.

Having skimmed through there, I also noticed a few positive comments, as well as people suggesting perfectly reasonable things like, oh, I don't know, going to see one of the other bands performing at the same time.

I just can see the banners in the audience with the profanities toward Bono.

Complete and absolute nonsense.

There are stalls *immediately* to the left and right of the Pyramid Stage for charities like Water Aid and Greenpeace. U2 are the band who would be *most* welcome there.

Glasto has an outrageously diverse audience and line up. There are dozens of stages and fields with all kinds of everything to suit everyone. And the vibe there is all positive, peace and love man.

NOBODY there is gonna picket a guy onstage saying things about aid to Africa or release Aung San Suu Kyi.

If you can find a way to hit every Euro and US date on the 1st and 2nd leg of the tour, I'm SURE you can find a way to be there. Good luck, Cathal!

They must be getting paid a SHITLOAD of £s in order to make this dash from the middle of the N. American leg without the full set up even. Either that or a scenario that I don't want to think of which is maybe they think this is their final opportunity to play it...

BTW, the superfans (I mean the super super ones) always find a way to get tix...

Fuck, I forgot everyone who goes to Glasto posts comments on the Guardian site.

Seriously, ignore them.

U2 are the uncoolest band in the UK. The Guardian's readers really believe they are at the bleeding edge of appreciation of the best in the arts world. The Guardian's review of the Wembley 360 gig was fantastic! The guy gave it four out of five stars but tied himself in knots trying to qualify himself and avoid saying he enjoyed the concert.

I don't imagine the band will get booed and I don't really believe there's been an increase in negative opinion towards U2 in the UK over recent years.

NLOTH was met with indifference rather than negativity but their live appearances always tend to go over really well. People loved the impromtu BBC rooftop performance earlier on in the year and I remember the crowd at Live8 going crazy during their set. As somebody else said, people who go to these festivals are pretty open-minded and just want to listen to good music.

I personally can't wait, it'll be immense!!

I'd disagree with this post on almost every point.

i'm not surprised looking at the guardian comments - we had similar comments when they announced playing don valley in sheffield on the local forum.

It just looks so cool to hate U2 and to admit to liking them might tarnish your street credibility. Bet some of these posters will be the first ones to be belting out the lyrics to Beautiful Day etc.

It is amazing how many comments I hear from mates that say I don't like U2, but when a song like with or without you comes on they go 'oh I quite like this'. It's all tosh...

This. This. A thousand times this!

SO true, especially the "it's cool to hate U2" part. It's understandable when your lead singer is someone like Bono, because his political activities blend over the music and people will dislike that. But that turns into "God I hate U2, they're annoying."

This is why a blinding performance from them at Glastonbury can only be a very positive thing for them.

I am wondering what they will get paid to headline Glasto. Does anyone know what previous headliners got?

It has to be at least 1M

I thought Glastonbury paid performers a very trivial fee. But that might have been some late night campfire chat whilst under the influence.

How would you disagree? i wouldnt say NLOTH has been given any more negative reviews than HTDAAB got, i also think the rooftop gig (from the people who where there) was more positive than negative, so what is it you disagree with?

Thank TH for making your difficult decision a bit easier:wink:

Maybe because U2 fans don't want to see the other rubbish they dredge up at Glastonbury?

hahahahahaha WOW

forgive me, everyone, for saying this but fuck you.
I don't care if I get banned for this, I sincerely mean that. you are EXACTLY the kind of person I don't want to see anywhere fucking NEAR this festival. We've had this discussion time and time again - what would happen if U2 played?

Thankfully the tickets sell out before the headliners are announced these days so we no longer have to worry about U2 being announced then U2 fans swarming the festival like Axver said and treating it as just another U2 show any ignoring anything else.

Glastonbury's the best festival on earth. The fact that U2 are playing only makes it ten times better, and they're just the FRIDAY headliners - god knows who'll be playing on Saturday (the BIG slot usually) and Sunday.

So get off your fucking high horse and shut up about the "rubbish" that festival has. I'd love to know what you'd consider to be a decent festival line-up. Just go and check out past line-ups and kindly shut the fuck up.

Please, let's all calm down. Can we just celebrate that U2 will be part of a great music festival, something they haven't done in a couple of decades?

The PR value outways the direct payment. The Non-claw show should be interesting, but may be similar to promo shows/RRHOF/Berlin.

A bunch of this performance should also be shown on TV. There have been a couple glasto TV holdouts like Green Day and Leonard Cohen.

BTW, the giant sign got banned after the Springsteen incident. It rendered lots of the Bruce jumbotron footage almost unusable.
