Amazing show. We got in the GA line around 5pm and it was very very long, a couple thousand people at least. We really didnt think we would get into the pit at all, we had been at a nearby sports bar drinking and eating dinner before the show. Anyway when we finally got inside we headed down straight for the pit and we got in! I guess some people either didn't know what they were doing, what they wanted, or just wanted to be on the outside of the whole thing. Anyway for us it worked out great because we were on Edge's side near the rail. People around us had been in line since 9am and we just made it in, as one person told us "thats very Irish of you to go drinking and show up at the last minute, still make your way into the pit while everyone else waits it out in line"
The pit was very crowded and also very hot. I have no knowledge of any pit fiasco before we arrived, but the only security downer i know of is when someone in our section of the pit was smoking weed and security was profiling people who looked like they might be smoking, for lack of better terms. They would pick certain people and ask to see their hands to make sure they didnt have any mary jane. I realize Darth Jones doesn't want anyone smoking pot in his brand new stadium, but good lord people this is a rock concert what do you expect? Im thinking those security people were kind of a joke, anyway i wont let it bother me.
There was a pretty lively group around us, including some people from Ireland & Malasyia, and of course some kids and some adults who were having a great time. All ages were represented here. The sound was amazing from where we were at, from MUSE to Moment of Surrender, it was all good. No downers. And MUSE was pretty good too btw.
The claw is really hard to see from the pit because you are looking up, all the pictures i have seen from the news shows all of the pretty colors and the bright lights, etc. What we saw was basically a giant moster over the band and it was pretty outrageous. Which is fitting in this stadium, which is in itself a spectacle.
It's funny that the songs we probably least wanted to hear "GOYB", "Vertigo", "Elevation", were among the biggest rockers of the night and really blew the crowd (and us) away. I guess these songs have their place....also COBL was awesome and Bono picking up the teenager and letting him walk/run around the ramp and giving him the sunglasses at the end was pretty fucking cool. I'm not sure if the kid really knew what to expect, but by the end he walked away and turned around and gave Bono the peace sign, which was really fun. He got a lot of cheers himself, and he has a nice story to tell about being on the worlds biggest stage and getting bono-fide rock star glasses from the worlds biggest little singer.
ISHFWILF was awesome with the crowd basically singing a good portion of the song. Awesome. Amazing Grace, beautiful. MOS, Magnificent, UF, beautiful....elegant, atmospheric....awesome. UTEOTW was its ususal self, and awesome rocker that explodes all over the stadium, along with SBS and the climactic STREETS! Every song felt like a climax, a sonic orgy. I have positive thoughts on "Ill go crazy.." thought i would like to hear it again.
Bono and the band sounded great, Edge practically blew the roof off of the stadium and Adam's thunderous bass pounding in our chest along with Larry's drums were a testament to the power of this band and their unbelieveable stage setup. Bono's voice was great....terrific even.. though im guessing this tour is better served without a roof over our heads. We will find out in a few days in Norman.
Met a lot of cool people around us, including some Texas Longhorn fans who we got to chat some football with briefly and some girls who were a lot of fun. Dallas Schoo came out to do his thing between Muse and u2 and we raised such a ruckus as he walked by he paused and threw a guitar pick to the people who were standing next to us
Glad they got that because they deserved it after having to stand behind us tall folks during the show.
Anyway, thank u2 for building this enormous stage for all of us to come and see....and also for continuing to play great music and continuing to give a fuck...
