That seems to be the likely reason, yeah.

Is there a suitably sized Dutch stadium free at this time of the year? I'm surprised not to see a date there too, especially since I assumed the presence of only 2 Amsterdam dates this year instead of 3 to be a sure sign the band would return in 2010. Plenty of room to slot in a couple in September though ...

That's a good question. The stadiums I can think of that are large enough are Feijenoord Rotterdam or Amsterdam Arena. However, every other weekend those stadiums are occupied for a soccer match. During the week there is Europe League or Champions League... All U2 stadium Tours so far visited Netherlands in July/ early August, with the exception of Zooropa (May, but end of soccer competition)
Thinking of the long period the stadium is needed for building up / breaking down, I think it's not impossible, but it will be difficult to plan Dutch concerts.

Besides the big september gaps, it might also be possible that they will plan dates before Frankfurt...

the reason that in the largest part of mainland europe they don't check passports is the Schengen Treaty: free movement of goods and people in the countries that signed the Treaty. So once you are in a Schengen-country, you are free to go to another one and they will probably not check your passport. However, the UK and Ireland are not a member and therefore your passport will be checked.

Technically it's not the Middle East, especially since it's on the western side of the Bosphorus. They played Teheran in 1997.

An interview in order to get a passport?
It sucks to live in England it looks like...

It sucks in many many ways

You're right about Istanbul as a city, I guess I was thinking more about Turkey as a country.

I'm already getting my itinerary ready for next year, I'll be 100% attending the Moscow and Budapest shows.

You're thinking of Tel Aviv, not Tehran.

What about the venue they played on Elevation in Arnhem? I believe that holds about 30,000 for concerts? Does it have as heavy a soccer schedule? It may not be the ideal size, but it'd be better than no Dutch gigs at all. I refuse to believe U2 will skip the Netherlands entirely.

And true, there could be gigs earlier in August, but keep in mind the US leg looks like running into late July and there'll probably be at least a week or two's downtime between last US show and first European show.

But why dont you just get one? :)

Well, the real reason is...i am not able to work due to health issues, so I dont have much money. A gig in Scotland is about the limit for me:sad: Am so envious of the ones that can do mulitple shows, but in a nice way

Me old mucker Gav is gonna sneak me to Russia and Hungary with him.......he just doesnt know it yet :p

Sorry to hear that Gman, but I think they'll probably play a gig in Britain somewhere, maybe not Scotland, but who knows? Don't give up hope just yet.

Glad you went for the old school Boba Fett!

Budapest... Where did you get that from? Could be pretty neat... :hmm:

Damn, I thought I had beat you to it
Lol, Teheran is in Iran, totally forgot, I'm usually good at geography! I was listening to the Sheffield bootleg only minutes ago, maybe it was the "Radio Teheran, Radio Teheran" thing that confused me!

I was just about to look on your website to check about Tehran, I was shocked to think that I'd never heard of them playing Iran!!::wink:

Can't you maybe put aside 15 pounds aside a month? In a year's time, you'll have the money to go to Istanbul. Sorry about the health issues man

Arnhem might indeed be a possibility (great concert by the way during the Elevation Tour!!!). Their schedule is less tight. However they still have competition and cup matches. And I am wondering if the height of the stadium is heigh enough for the claw, I don't think so. Well, I will wait and hope ...

That's also a Soccerstadium (for a club called "Vitesse", the stadium is named Gelredome). Playing in the same league as Ajax (Arena) and Feijenoord. It's quite small compared to the Kuip in Rotterdam and the Amsterdam ArenA. Besides, the roof of the "Gelredome" is way too low for the Claw.
Phommel is making a good point, the building up/breaking down time takes to much time...

But I want Amsterdam or ROTTERDAM shows!!! PLEEEEAAAASEEE

Get in your car and drive to Frankfurt or Brussel. :) You live in Roermond! I'm living in Utrecht and still considering the cardrive to German of Belgium IF U2 is not coming to The Netherlands...

From what I read on U2.com (in the FAQs for the tour) if I understand it right

1) Unused pre-sale codes will still be valid
2) New pre-sale codes will also be issued to current subscribers
3) New subscribers (i.e. those who only sign-up to U2.com today (after the new tour dates announcement) will fall under a new category for the presale. Previously Boots subscribers were the last in line - now Boots subscribers can buy tickets on the last day of pre-sale date in the morning whilst the newest category of subscribers (called Magnificent) will have to wait until the pm.
4) Certainly for the forthcoming North American shows people with unused presale codes can buy the usual four tickets four/different shows with the old presale code and another 4/4 with the new code. Not sure about Europe though.

 Good to know. Haven't read that far yet, just glad to see whatever codes are left can still be used and the new 4 codes can be used also.

Looking at the dates there's a couple of big gaps were they could play the uk and Ireland, between the show in Istanbul on the 6th September and the show in Munich on the 15th September and then between the show in Paris on the 18th September and the show in Seville on the 29th September,so all is not lost yet:d

Someone mentioned Budapest in this thread somewhere, Czech Republic as well I think, oh well if they don't play Budapest I'll do one of the other eastern gigs.

I believe the rumor for Budapest is for September 8, which would fall in line pretty good. Maybe they'll head up to Prague after that?

And dangerous. Also, the stadium in Detroit is a dome (that doesn't open) would the Claw even fit there? And sad is it may be I doubt the show is coming to a state with 14% unemployment.

They won't do Detroit. They'll do Cleveland and draw from western PA and MI, as well as IN. Cleve. is more centrally located in a sense.

Anyone think they are gonna play North America before Europe in June and July??
Yes, I think it'll be a summer tour for NA and Europe, then fall/winter for SA. Heard a rumor that they need to sell out 8 Australian, Japanese, New Zealand dates in order to make it viable for them to ship all that down there so that may not happen on this tour, although I think Jake said it would, so who knows.

Eight? Easy. They can get six simply by hitting Sydney, Melbourne, and Wellington.
