Lament for Fez Being Born

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Poking fun of it, but it's pretty true. It's a question of concept, hard work and vision. With these three together, any song has potential to sound good to an audience.

These three? Has Larry been replaced by a robot or something? Or is Adam just a poor homeless bassist who begs on the streets of London with a sign that says WILL WORK FOR TEA who they hire on a gig-to-gig basis and isn't actually part of the band?

That might explain a lot about his sudden improvement in the last year.

Plus, even a robot has more personality than Larry, and Larry has shown more personality this year ... :hmm:

And his singing has been better... maybe they just have LarryBot play back Dan's vocal parts from the album...

«It's a question of concept (...)».
Did you read what I wrote?
So, a robot is always a possibility depending on the concept - that is, on the vision, the message and the imagetic.
There's a reason why Bono appeared on stage as alter-ego's and not as Bono himself... Why? Read above.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say.

Yah neither do I

Then again I've no idea what youre talking bout either!

It's not hard what to get what I'm talking about. It's about cultural and artistic studies, but we don't have to be artists or experts to understand it. I'm saying that, in a show/presentantion/piece every option is possible (whether is an acoustic set or a robot replacing Larry) depending on the concept of the show and on the message you want to deliver with it. If the message and the concept justifies a robot replacing Larry, then there's nothing wrong with it.

Then I agree, but I still don't understand what Robot Larry has to do with it. The way I read your original post, you were suggesting that there were three members of U2, and I was simply making a joke about that part.

i get where you're coming from alive, great song.

It would rule as an encore opener, and imagine the sort of impressive lighting that could accompany it on this tour. I think it'd be right at home in that sort of slot.

U2, you know you want to play this in Australia.

ah now I get where "Robot Larry" came from, I was completely lost! - no dude, the "three" he (or she as the case may be! - how do I know youre a dude? Your location!) was talking about wasn't 3 band members, but "concept, hard work and vision" (still not certain why he/she was talking about them but that was the "three"). You guys had crossed wires ;)

Oh, I see. :yikes:

I'm hoping Fez gets some play on the new leg. I don't really see how people are so disgusted/disappointed with it... I think I read somewhere that it was an "in and out" song.. wasn't worked on as long as the others in the studio.

With that, I think the song is excellent. If they get the lighting right, the song is bound to send chills through the audience.

on record it sounds as though it would be hard to get the sound right playing it live. there's a lot of stuff happening in that song. i know the band uses backing tracks, but this might be a stretch. would love to hear it though. i know its been mentioned before, but it would still make for a great entrance song.

cover bands are playing it perfectly, so I just think U2 doesn't want to play it, which is the biggest mistake since Acrobat....

Fez-being born is the best song on NLOTH, no question.

It will make the us leg at some point, just not as an opener in my eyes. Ill admit im not a big fan of the song, but it would be more than interesting to hear it being played. I have a slight feeling its going to creep in after BD in one of the legs.

It would be interesting if they use the Fez bit as a pre-recorded bit and then they launch into Being Born live. I'm not sure it would work as well live as it does in the studio.

White as snow, take your slot in the acoustic song setlist spot.
SUC, make an appearance.

Larry got better in the last year... ? Interesting.

As soon as I heard it on the album I thought the band should walk on during Fez and then blast through Being Born as the opener. It has a kind of driving intensity to it, the same intensity that made Zoo Station such a good opener on ZooTV.

I am agnostic on this song. It is good, but I really could take or leave it. To put it another way, I dont think it is UF worthy material.

I have tried to get into it, and I am not trying to argue with/trash anyone here who loves it.

I have heard such great things about here, I guess I just want some help understanding why everyone loves it. I am completely open to anyone's help.

Yep. Encore opener was what I expected. Major mistake not playing this!
As much as I love Ultraviolet. It's in Fez's slot!

Simple, they should do both!! :hyper:

I'd be more interested in Fez-Being Born -->White As Snow-->Moment of Surrender!

again, I have to agree. Could really go for this too.

I'll one up you on that...

The Unforgettable Fire-->Fez-Being Born-->Please-->Moment Of Surrender-->Bad-->40

ok, now you've gone too far. That, I think would kill me.
But I'd die happy.

I don't know, rarely has anyone ever convinced me I liked something that didn't hit me from the beginning. Fez was a hit with me from the first listen. either it becomes a part of you or it doesn't.

F-BB would suffer the same fate as Your Blue Room: Amazing for die hard fans, but a major snoozefest for the rest. People will use it as a piss/beer break. Sad to say but there is a reason why U2 play certain songs and don't play others.

That said, F-BB is my favourite song on NLOTH and I'd love to see and hear it live. But not in a stadium concert.

I think U2 would survive by giving one or two slots for these kinds of rarities to satisfy the hardcore audience.

That's another reason for using F-BB to open the mainset or the encore. I can guarantee there'll be no piss/beer break.

what total and utter crap! man u dont half talk out of your ass!

your blue room is low tempo, fez being born has a powerful, driving, booming rhythm with big keyboard notes and Edge's guitar is very busy in it - it's one of U2's ecstatic songs. To liken it to your blue room is beyond ridiculous!

some people have zero clue
