Currently visiting TO. It's been raining like crazy, and thus hazy (not good for colors).
Might try an HDR of this when I get home - just have the laptop here with limited s/w.

Man, hasnt it been brutal? Apparently there was even some serious flooding in parts of the city today. Hopefully it clears up for you before you head home

Yeah, that was some of the heaviest rain I've seen. Did get a little sun today before flying back though.

A hdr version/variation of the prior one:

So this is a HDR composed from a single image rather than two, yes? Still seems to have worked really well!

So the cherry blossoms have been blooming, and it's been raining, so I ran out and took a couple of photos.

Any criticisms? I'm still a bit unsure as to the saturation / colour levels - I obviously bumped them up a fair bit, but is it too much?

Thanks - I ended blending 3 images for it. I've started exposure-bracketing landscape and sunset type shots more these days to give me more options later.

They're definitely fully saturated. It's hard to tell without seeing the real blossoms though. It may be a bit much because some stuff in the background has some harsh color transitions in #3 and 4.

have ANY of you taken photography classes or in middle of such? (and I missed ya say)

or just done your own thing really?

Well I'm not up to par with the other guys here, but no I've never taken classes. I don't have the right equipment or the time/money. I could take them free where I work but I'd have to take other required art classes before being accepted into photography. My boss and some friends kind of mentor me, otherwise I just play around (take photos every day) and do a lot of browsing on Flickr and reading EXIF data for ideas.

Yeah I've just done my own thing. Considered taking classes, but don't think I have the time for it.

I took a Beginning B&W Photography class once and a Beginners Lighting Technique class also, other than that learned on my own.

There's a photography thread on Interference :cute:

I posted this in Dream Out Loud as well, as this is quite U2-related:

My best photo in months.

Nice image. I checked out the full-size version on flickr as well. I like the Canon body/lens you use as well- own it too. I think there's an IS version coming out (according to the rumor sites).

Yeah I know, I'd love that, as I use my body just as much for video as for stills. My first priority is getting a 17-40mm though, I really love wide shots.
Let's wait for Photokina and see what it brings...

A couple of cliche shots from Yosemite:

From the top of Sentinel Dome - lots of haze/smoke from controlled burns and bad wind directions - made for some fun colors though.

^Nice compositions. If I could provide some unsolicited feedback, I'd say that #2 could benefit from some increased contrast in photoshop.

I appreciate the feedback. I did some minor tweaking in DPP and actually had bumped the contrast in the photo I posted, how much contrast boost would you use?

No worries on the tweak. I will have to bump the contrast, but the image definitely lost some quality on picasa, especially in the shade of El Cap. Should I be aiming for less detail in the shadows when playing with the contrast?
