After Magnificent's poor chart performance, do you think U2 will still release a third single from NLOTH? Is there any news out yet as to which song is being released next?
I sure hope they still release a third single from the album, but they need to make sure to promote it well, otherwise it might flop like Magnificent did. Magnificent only got to number 42 in the uk charts, which is one of their biggest flops for a single ever. So if there is a third single, it needs to be promoted better. It would be tragic if they missed the top 40 again, which they might well do if the next single is promoted as badly as Magnificent was.
It makes me wonder if they'd do bad enough to miss the top 75... afterall, didn't they plan to release 4 singles from this album? Does everyone think they'll still go through with that?
I know that lots of people will be like "screw charts it doesn't matter"... but it's not like Magnificent got to like number 25 or something like that... it completely missed the top 40! That is serious, especially for u2 standards. And there's now a danger that it might happen with single number three also... and single number four...
Just to clear things up too, I know that the charts have changed these days, what with it being mainly downloads etc, so Magnificent was bound to flop... but still, 42? That's terrible. And it also only spent one week in the uk top 75 also. One week!
Just to compare to other songs, let's for example look at Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses - this song was the 5th single from Achtung Baby. By that point the album had been out ages, so a 5th single would be destined to not do that well. But still, this song managed to get to number 14, which is a much better position than Magnificent, which was the 2nd single from NLOTH... it's not like Magnificent was the 5th single. It was the 2nd. It flopped big time.
GOYB also flopped. Number 12 in the uk for a lead single is bad. But as I said, the charts have changed. And GOYB also got a much better position than Magnificent's 42...
What's people's thoughts? What do people think will happen with future single releases from NLOTH?
