Boots VS Magnificent

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

The problem is Boots is such a suck-arse song, you could dress it up all you want with special effects and such... it still blows.

What's the apropo' statement..."You could dress up a pig and put lipstick on it, but it's still just a pig".

After watching both videos (with the sound off on Boots), I must admit Boots is the better video.

Magnificent is ok, bur pretty boring. I guess its slightly better since I hate the boots video. It looks like an art student threw it together in an afternoon. Not getting why so many like it.

I never watch their videos, so i don't really care. I have watched boots maybe twice, and will probably never watch the magnificent one again.

Boots is a good song with an insanely amazing music video. Magnificent is an insanely amazing song with a good music video.

I'm going with the consensus: Boots is crap compared to Magnificent if we're comparing the songs themselves, but between the videos, there's no contest. It's a vibrant, surreal, exciting video vs. a commercial for fabric softener.

i will go against the grain here and say Magnificent all the way. As much as i love fighter planes, chicks with moustaches, fireworks, guns, bombs, etc...the song just blows and there is almost no redemption. You could stick a grenade up my ass and i would still have the same opinion, except for id probably be on fire.

Why aren't people complaining about Boots and praising Magnificent (the songs)? I think the question is about the videos and how good they are, not to compare both songs.
For instance, I like LNOE, but I don't like the video.

It seems to be consensual that, whether Boots is a good song or not and whether Magnificent is magnificent, Boots video is very good and Magnificent video is average and it doesn't match the quality of the song... which is the opposite for Boots.

Magnificent for quality in thinking, execution, idea and meaning.

Boots for all the pretty colours.

I give it to Magnificent by a single pubic hair

I'll take the simple and effective Magnificent compared to over the top, ADHD video of Boots.

I am not into videos like I once was. I remember being crazy about all of the The Joshua Tree, Achtung and Zooropa videos. I also like Beautiful Day. I am just not feeling the video vibe anymore. I don't think it's quite as important as it used to be.

That said, I like the Magnificent video more. Boots video is cool, but understated is better.

The boots video makes the song make better sense and therefore you appreciate it more, the Magnificent song does not improve upon the song or do much of anything to an already better song....

Boots by a pretty long shot. Both are pretty linear and there's not too much happening in either of them but Boots has the creativity, the colors, the details and the women that the Magnificent-video lacks.

Boots video is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better.

I'm quite underwhelmed by this new video.

I'm actually more pissed off with the fact that they shortened what is by far the best part of the song... the solo and the little riff that leads up to it. They should have kept that, and got rid of one of the ridiculous verses.

When I read the thread title I thought it was about the songs.

No competition there I guess

As for the video, I like Magnificent slightly more right now, though I still think Boots is great, but I have probably seen it too often, plus it's a visual effects overkill that I cannot handle every time.

Magnificent on the other hand is simple and not so over-the-top. I love the colors, the Fez images, just the band performing. Very nice video that fits the song well.

Boots. The Magnificent video kinda bores me, and it's too similar to Mysterious ways. Has a huge been there, done that vibe.
Boots may not be a huge popular song, but the video is quite cool. All the effects, the gunshots, the women..

Boots kicks magnificents butt easily .

Mysterious Ways is My number one, and it's kinda silly to try to duplicate that video imo.

I don't think anyone was trying to "duplicate" the MW video. All these two videos have in common is that they were shot in Morrocco and have U2 in them.
