The 'I don't seem to like the new album' thread

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I respect this thread, and the opinions here- but what, ideally, did people want to hear on this album, and what was the reaction of people in THIS thread that hold a dislike for NOLOTH to the last 2 albums...? Just an independent poll :sexywink:

Thats it! Right on! But seriously.....I challenge anyone to say that the guitar at the beginning of I'll Go Crazy is not a direct ripoff of the piano in "Faithfully" by Journey. It's the exact same thing.

I respectfully disagree. It's like saying Larry's playing on "Bullet the Blue Sky" is a rip off of the drum line in "Little Guitars" by Van Halen. SIMILAR, but not "the same".

No way! It's a total ripoff. Anyone SHOULD be able to hear that.

Something original and good!

Why can't it happen? It happened with The Unforgettable Fire. It happened with The Joshua Tree. Then came Achtung Baby. They've made huge leaps and bounds before. They should be able to do it again. They need to do it again.

This quote invalidates a lot of what you've been saying. There is a difference between innovating your own sound and being innovative vs. other music. With Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree U2 were defining their own sound. It's much harder, once you've done that to THEN innovative within yourself. Only Achtung Baby up to now has really achieved that. NLOTH might be the next one, in my opinion. It not only changes our perception of a genre but also our perception of the artists. Unforgettable Fire and Joshua Tree did not attain both of these, only one.

Plus, Crow, it doesn't seem you have any appreciation for context. What these two clips for an example (intro guitar):

Polka by Yves Klein Blue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ6tKGFnemU

Mama by My Chemical Romance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xU-8Fqocmp4

The Journey bit and U2's Crazy Tonight have subtle differences but are pretty close. If I was U2, I would probably avoid releasing this song as a single because I bet you Journey would sue their ass.

Ummmmmm.............no. Half of the reason you think it sounds the same is based on the echo. HE'S NOT PLAYING THE SAME CHORD PROGRESSION! The worst thing you did for your argument was post that Journey clip- It's clear there's an extra three chords being played there (between his steps down to the minor chord on the piano), whereas Edge only hits 3-4.

Therefore, if you were to tab it out, and play it separately, only the first two chords would be shared. If bands were to sue each other on "two shared chords in a row", half the industry would be bankrupt, including all punk artists past and present. As well as almost all reggae.

You're like Vanilla Ice arguing that he did not rip off Under Pressure with Ice Ice Bay....ROFLAMO

Yet another case of the Emperor's new clothes!

Coming from a poster who stated a 3 note backing melody was the same as a 5 note backing melody...:|

Sorry, but you don't know what you are talking about.

I totally disagree with your declaration about my post. U2 used to innovate on each album. They used to try real hard not to repeat themselves. This new album is littered with regurgitated sounds...and obvious ripoffs.

Emperor's new clothes.

See if you had an ounce of knowledge, enough to back yourself up you wouldn't have to repeat yourself.

You backed away from this argument the first time I confronted you and then again now...

Which proves you're making up shit to stir shit...

It sucks to be called out, doesn't it?

The vocals are embarrassing in the verse on I'll Go Crazy when hits those high notes. And there is guitar very reminiscent of Walk On. And this isn't the only song on the album where Edge does Walk On guitar rips.

Edge ripped off Walk On multiple times on HTDAAB too. Must be a coincidence.

Unless, of course, Walk On's guitar work has no specific defining characteristic and that's just the way his guitar sounds all of the time.

Flying FuManchu agrees with me! ROFLMAO!!

Why are we comparing new songs to older songs and accusing U2 of plagiarism? I mean, if were really gonna play hardball, why not indicte The Fly, Lady With The Spinning Head and Ultraviolet...and then why don't you have a listen to Acrobat and Love Is Blindness, very similar chord progressions...however i still love them all. There's only so many chords, for God's sake.

On the last three albums....I agree with you 100%!!!

There is a difference. All the songs you mentioned were spawned from different parts of Lady With The Spinning Head. It was a catalyst for an album.

So which is it, Walk On or Journey?

When are you going to back up your other claim? Come on...
