I like the ranking out of 10 thing. Stupid thing to do but why not, bit of fun.

I am very disapointed about what they did to breathe.... they murdered it since the beach clip leaked.. what happened to the awesome outtro, it was bloody amazing now half of it does'nt even exist...

Rest of the album is awesome, though i was hoping that the bridge in magnificent would be more like what i heard in the beach clip too :(

Stand up comedy is brilliant
 
Sonically and compositionally it's fantastic to see them breaking out of the U2-by-numbers thing, the lyrics are superb and Bono's singing is one fire.

But a question for the forum: does it have the melodies and tunes? I'm not sure. It's not got 3 killer melodies up front that JT and ATYCLB had. Crazy is no Still Haven't Found for example. Or, is this because I'm only on my second listen?

Having said that, I love Fez. :|
 
After the first listens, this is album is a real grower, i'm surprised by white as snow, and i love Moment of Surrender. This is U2 for adults, in a good way :applaud:

There's nothing wrong with U2 going backwards as long as they go backwards to take what made them U2 and use that to go forward. I feel they did that with this album. This is a return to form for U2.
 
just heard the first three songs....think MOS is my favorite....it's incredible!!!! and the chrous is classic. the music :drool::drool::drool:

it might sound corny but i might have shed a tear listening to that song.....
 
To be honest Lalat, I'm happy. U2 have always had a knack for big melodies and I'm pretty happy to see them trying to make interesting music in a different way; there seems to be a focus on atmosphere. It's something Radiohead do so well - making every note, every instrument not just "there" but a contributer to the feel of the song. The way everything works together is what makes Radiohead so incredible; the sum is greater than the parts.

The last two albums gave me the shits because they were just lyrics with music. The atmosphere is back, and it's presented so differently. The melodies are definitely there but on this album it's the things like the interplay between Edge's guitar and Larry's drums in Magnificent that are giving me the shivers, not any With or Without You giant vocal hooks.

I've only managed to hear the first five tracks before I had to leave for a group meeting

But if this album stays this good, it'll be absolutely amazing

Moment of Surrender and Unknown Caller are beautiful
 
just a quick "review" :)
I was afraid, i was disappointed with last two albums etc..

and what happened today? I was reminded of AB...not musicaly, but in a way that I experienced the album.
It was like this:
first listen - "well...ok..strange..nothing special..it doesn't grab me.."
first day - interesting, but this is not U2 i really like...totally disappointed
second day- still listening and expecting nothing, because it's just nothing special...
third day - can't get the songs out of my head...
fourth day - I love it..it's best thing ever...It grew on me and it stayed in cassette player until Zooropa came out

It's not like that now (because it's only first day)...but I'm in my office, it's 2p.m., and the album has been playing since 9A.M. I'm alone in my office so I can play it loudly..and with every listen I'm discovering something new, something differeent, and it's all good. Bomb was all right at first listen and from then on it just deteriorated. But this is a grower, and those U2 albums are always best for me personally...

Really liking it so far...MOS and UC are maybe the best for now (and after I heard MOS for first time I thought "CRAP" :) :) )
And I love NLOTH! But I can't stop imagining that song without the chorus...somehow I feel that that way it would be even more special...but that's nitpicking at this moment :)

I just hope that it will not grow out of me in next month or two

I've just listened through the album once - MOS made me cry my fucking eyes out - I have no idea why... Tired and emotional here maybe...

Unknown Caller made me emotional too, probably because they have made such a brilliant job of it plus I'm loving the whole get a grip and move on sentiment.

White As Snow is truly truly gorgeous, bearing in mind the soldier in afhganistan explanation - its one that really makes me feel something...

And theres something quietly devastating about Cedars.

Gut reaction? I think those are four of the best things U2 have ever done.
NLOTH, Magnificent, Boots, Stand Up Comedy & Fez-Being are brilliant.
Im a little underwhelmed by Crazy Tonigh & Breathe. Both sound a bit clumsy and overcooked...

Anyway, Im sure all will change by tonight when I'll have listened to he album at least 50 times!!

CEDARS OF LEBANON WAS SO DARK AND PERSONAL, IT MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS THERE, WAKING UP WITH BONO WITH HIS CLOTHES IN A DIRTY HEAP. WHAT A GLORIOUS FEELING. AND ALBUM.
